BACKGROUND
INVEST is a flexible, efficient buy-in mechanism that helps USAID mobilize private capital. It was designed to address challenges that make it harder for USAID to work alongside the investment community. It ensures rapid procurement so USAID can act within investors’ timelines. It enables flexible, specialized project design and implementation. And, it focuses on learning and adaptation to drive innovation in mobilizing private capital.

ROLE’S PURPOSE

The Communications Specialist will provide surge communications support for the INVEST initiative and its component buy-in activities.

OBJECTIVES AND DUTIES

Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

Prosper Africa Executive Secretariat:

  • Provide surge support to INVEST’s Prosper Africa comms team, including but not limited to: creating and polishing slide decks, organizing information and contact lists, drafting digital content, and working within the Prosper Africa website CMS to update copy.

GenDev and PIVOT:

  • Provide efficient surge support to INVEST’s communications team, including drafting and editing newsletters and updates, organizing information, and drafting communications collateral

INVEST Core Communications Support:

  • Recreate https://invest-procurement.com/ on Squarespace, including all content and functionality. Improve look and feel with an eye to user experience. Recommend and create graphics to clarify and consolidate content, in collaboration with INVEST comms, procurement, and graphic design teams. Coordinate with software developer to migrate URL. Ensure Section 508 accessibility standards are met.
  • Provide surge support as needed to INVEST’s comms team, e.g.:
    • Contribute to INVEST’s project-wide learning and communications efforts, including the development of reports, graphics, op-eds, blogs, website content, digital media content, presentations, case-studies, etc. Engage the INVEST partner network through newsletters and LinkedIn content.
    • Draft “Voices from the USAID Finance and Investment Network” blogs distilling content from interviews conducted by USAID INVEST Communications Advisor. Perform basic video editing on interview footage.
    • Provide direct communications support to INVEST buy-ins. This could include preparing communications products, copy-editing and formatting materials, writing announcements, press releases, blogs, and success stories, and preparing presentations and reports.
    • Upload blogs to Medium and Marketlinks platforms and ensure publications are appropriately tagged and organized.
    • Curate a folder of photos from USAID Flickr accounts that can be used for USAID and INVEST publications upon request.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience building and/or managing a website on a DIY platform like Squarespace.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • 3+ years of communications experience, with a preference for experience with USAID or other international development organizations.
  • A willingness to learn about blended finance and to engage with technical content.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • A good design eye and experience in Canva preferred.
  • Kindness, flexibility, and productivity.
  • Ability to live and work in the US

The Communications Specialist STTA will report to INVEST’s Director of Communications.
