Overview of position
Our clients engineering section is mandated to carry out design, construction & maintenance ofaccommodation & office facilities for civilian staff & T / PCC’s. The engineering section has the following units:
- WATSAN.
- Projects & asset management unit.
- Infrastructure management unit.
- Planningand design unit.
The incumbent will provide effective services to the engineering section foroverall operational & technical support.
Role objectives:
The Electrical Technician will provide support to Kidal engineering section conducting site inspections, analysis & reporting, servicing, adhoc repairs, maintenance of electrical systems, powersupplies & distribution networks, including, voltage regulators etc. The Electrical Technician will perform the following tasks:
- Responsible for the timely completion of various supporting QA / QC activities according to approvedwork plans, specified quality standards & development needs for electrical installations.
- Assist with the control & appraise work progress, review construction work plans & provide recommendations to the REO on ways to overcome issues, challenges & needs as related toelectrical installations.
- Provide support with quality control reviews, prepare related reports for the design, installation of electrical works as required & facilitate the compilation of input for monitoring & evaluation.
- Establish & perform scheduled servicing of core electrical installations & oversee contractor compliance with such schedules.
- Provide periodic & emergency repairs to the LV & MV systems & equipment, as well as to the electrical distribution systems as required.
- Provide rapid troubleshooting for reported electrical issues across the checkpoint network.
- Support the REO for electrical based solutions for preparation of material requirements & initiate the procurement processes.
- Provide technical input & assist the procurement team with all contractual matters for the completion of contracts with electrical installation components.
- Review contractor practices & conventional methodologies for electrical installations & make recommendations where remedial action is required.
- Prepares requisitions for procurement of electrical construction supplies.
- Recommend assistance to other engineering units to ensure the most economical & appropriate quality material & methods are utilized for electrical installations.
- Ensure UN standards of health, safety & environmental management across all project locations are always systematically applied.
- Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting & replacing old wiring & insulated cables & cleaning of circuits.
- Other tasks as assigned by the REO.
Objectives:
- To manage the electrical unit in the region & execute all construction, maintenance works.
Outputs:
- Provide professional electrical technical services & perform tasks as outlined here above.
Project reporting:
- This role reports to the Project Manager.
Key competencies:
- High school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate is required. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is desired.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering or related area is required.
- Experience in LV & MV installation & maintenance is required.
- Experience in project management including planning, design, budget & execution of electrical projects is desirable.
- Experience in electrical engineering in an international environment is desirable.
Team management:
- This role has no team management responsibility.
Further information:
- Total anticipated duration of the contract is 6 months.
- The Electrical Technician will primarily work in Kidal, Aguelhok & may be required to work nights & / or weekends.
