Position Title: Project Assistant

Appointment Type: One Year Fixed Term Contract, with the possibility of extension

Context:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Pretoria, South Africa and the direct supervision of the the National Officer Policy, Liaison and Reporting, the Project Assistant will be responsible for providing support in the implementation and monitoring of a project which aims to provide humanitarian assistance in the support of Covid-19 vaccination campaign roll-out in Mozambique, Botswana and South Africa. IOM South Africa in collaboration with the UNCT continues to advocate for the inclusion of all migrants in the vaccination process as no one is safe until we are all safe.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The incumbent shall perform the following essential functions:
• Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities.
• Assist in conducting surveys among migrant population to assess the general knowledge of COVID-19, vaccines, and vaccine hesitancy.
• Assist in conducting rapid assessments, mapping and profiling of vulnerable populations.
• Support in the development of community-based tools to collect information, to address vaccine hesitancy/anxiety around COVID-19 vaccination.
• Assist with budgets; verify availability of funds; obtain necessary approval and update budget-related information.
• Assist with administrative, logistic, financial, and technical support as required.
• Draft correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and organize meetings.
• Respond to general information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
• High school diploma with four years of relevant experience; or,
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience
Experience:
• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations;
• Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups; and,
• Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
Skills:
• Excellent organizational and administration skills;
• Excellent writing and communication skills;
• Strong facilitation/training skills, good interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure;
• Ability to work independently and as a team member;
• Computer competencies in advanced Microsoft Office software;
Languages:
• Fluency in English
• Knowledge of local languages will be an advantage.
