Nutrition Policy and Advocacy Senior Officer at International Rescue Committee

The Nutrition Policy and Advocacy Senior Officer sits within the Health Unit’s Policy, Advocacy, and Communications team. The Nutrition Policy and Advocacy Senior Officer will advance key parts of the IRC’s ambitious nutrition advocacy agenda. This role will lead engagement on key multilateral processes, and will also support the Health Policy and Communications Advisor on resource mobilization advocacy. Policy analysis, data analysis, and writing are key components of this role, with the Nutrition Policy and Advocacy Senior Officer producing key reports and briefs on nutrition. This position will also support capacity-building for advocacy with IRC’s country teams.

This position reports to the Health Policy and Communications Advisor.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Advance the IRC’s nutrition advocacy
* Serve as the focal point for the IRC’s nutrition advocacy in multilateral processes like the G7, G20, COP26, and to the World Bank

* Support the IRC’s nutrition advocacy to the United Nations system and donor governments

* Act as a strategic thought partner for IRC’s overall nutrition policy and advocacy work

* Convene and facilitate the IRC-led Wasting Advocacy Coalition

* Develop and lead nutrition-focused key events

  1. Policy analysis, research, and writing

* Deepen the IRC’s nutrition policy engagement through analyzing policy and financing trends

* Produce relevant, timely policy analyses, briefs and reports

* Deep dive into globally-reported data on wasting to report out changing trends and conditions in key countries

3**. Capacity-building for policy and advocacy**

* Strengthen the capacity of other IRC teams to advocate, including select support to country program teams

* Lead capacity building trainings for advocacy with IRC country teams

Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

* At least 5 years of experience in global health or humanitarian policy and advocacy

* Masters degree in public health, public policy/ related field, or equivalent work experience, required
* At least 1-2 years’ experience influencing multilateral institutions on health topics

* Demonstrable knowledge of nutrition and public health

* Significant experience conducting policy analyses

* Experience designing and organizing events
* Highly motivated and confident, ability to work independently and in close harmony with many diverse groups and individuals

* Demonstrated superior organizational and time-management skills

* Excellent written and verbal communications skills; your communications are direct, simple, and respectful

* Familiarity with Office 365 with strong Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; Master’s degree or comparable experience required

Language Skills: Fluency in English is required, French is an asset

Preferred experience & skills:

* Advocacy experience in a high-burden country context desirable

* Experience with resource mobilization highly desirable

* Past experience leading or working with coalitions desirable

* Experience working in cross-cultural settings desirable

* Experience analyzing data highly desired

Working Environment*:*

· Standard office working environment

· Some international travel as needed up to 20%

· This role may require working remotely full or part time and part time remote employees may be required to share workspace.
