Assistant Director, Institutional Development At HIAS

POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS seeks an Assistant Director, Institutional Development who supports the Institutional Development team to diversify revenue streams, with a specific focus on U.S. resettlement, integration and asylum services. They will expand HIAS’ corporate partnerships for both U.S. Programs and International Programs, identifying synergies within our signature approaches and corporate philanthropic trends. They will also support the scale up of HIAS’ resettlement and asylum networks to additional locations throughout the country, including developing and expanding funding partnerships with corporations, banks and other local donors. They act as a representative for HIAS with funders, corporate partners and other external stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates high quality proposals for institutional funders, with a specific focus on U.S. Programs; works closely with program and finance teams on project design, ensuring clarity, consistency and compelling case for funding, and adhering to donor/HIAS guidelines and policies.
  • Manages an Institutional Development Specialist, ensuring they can contribute to donor diversification and scale up of U.S. and corporate programs.
  • Regularly interfaces with different departments at HIAS to ensure consistency and coordination throughout writing and submission processes.
  • Cultivates and deepens relationships with foundations, corporations and other major funding prospects to diversify HIAS revenue streams, particularly for resettlement and asylum services in the U.S.; acts as a key representative for HIAS at donor and other philanthropic forums.
  • Conducts research to identify new potential funders for the U.S. and develops fundraising strategies for HIAS’ U.S. Programs work; designs and implements creative and comprehensive outreach, solicitation and management strategies for new donors.
  • Maintains high knowledge of donor and philanthropic trends across the U.S., as well as global corporate trends and giving.
  • Represents HIAS at donor meetings, ensuring strong, articulate and knowledgeable representation of both existing programs and future potential.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate degree in political science, development or related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in grant writing, proposal development and partnership development.
  • A proven track record in institutional development and relationship management in the U.S. preferred, especially with foundations and corporations.
  • Experience with the U.S. resettlement program or associated programs, preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with remote management, and highly self-motivated.
  • Outstanding English writing, editing and proofreading skills; strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • Previous professional or volunteer work in U.S. refugee assistance; knowledge of social service and social justice programs in the U.S. a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills; must demonstrate a strong sense of vision, a collaborative work style and the capacity to engage support and supporters for HIAS.
  • Some knowledge of Judaism and/or the Jewish community, culture and issues desired.
