Safeguarding Officer
Sightsavers is looking for a self-motivated Safeguarding Officer to provide proactive support to the wider Safeguarding team.

Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex with some home working
Salary: c. £31,218 – depending upon experience
About the role
The Global Safeguarding Officer, reporting to the Safeguarding Manager, is responsible for the implementation of safeguarding projects; safeguarding risk management; support designated safeguarding leads; and promoting safe practice in line with the Sightsavers Safeguarding Policy and sector-wide recommendations. The position liaises with designated safeguarding leads and partner organisations to provide them with required resources, capacity building support and training. This varied role will include training coordination and management, project management, risk management, research, governance and compliance. Key duties will include:
- Organising and co-facilitating annual safeguarding training for Designated Safeguarding Leads
- Organising and co-facilitating the onboarding process for new Designated Safeguarding Leads
- Reviewing and updating training materials on our online training platform
- Managing and maintaining safeguarding training and completion records
- Producing quarterly safeguarding newsletters
- Developing and managing visual aids such as posters and videos
- Assisting with the design of safeguarding tools
- Supporting ad hoc safeguarding projects
- Identifying safeguarding risks
- Supporting the safeguarding mailbox
- Attending and supporting at relevant meetings
- Supporting our safe recruitment practice and minimizing safeguarding risks
- Maintaining an up to date knowledge of safe practices within our sector
- Identifying areas for improvement
- Supporting designated safeguarding leads in compliance activities to ensure due diligence is completed, action plans followed up and policies in place
Whilst there will be some flexibility about working from home, this role will require working in our Haywards Heath office at least one day per week, and more frequently should the successful candidate prefer. We anticipate that there may also be some limited international travel in this role
About you
The Global Safeguarding Officer position is mostly administrative, but it will include contact with a wide range of mostly internal stakeholders. As a result, you should have good people skills and enjoying working with a range of people, from lots of different locations. You will have:
- an understanding of the risks faced by children or at risk adults
- an understanding of how to create safe spaces
- initiative and the ability to identify problems as well as to suggest solutions
- an enthusiasm for attending safeguarding calls and trainings
- a passion for keeping people safe
- strong written skills
- strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
International development experience and other languages (such as French, or Portuguese) would be useful in this role but they aren’t essential. This is an important and involved role. Please read the full job description for further details.
