The salary at Grade 5 varies according to location. For London it is ?48,995 per annum.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Human rights as high principles are values of perennial relevance; however, what about their future
application, interpretations and their implications? So much more is needed to ensure their relevance tomorrow is as immediately pertinent and even more widely understood than is the case today. What works to campaign against torture may not be as useful to uphold human rights in the context of the climate crisis. Similarly, campaigning against arbitrary killings in a world of new technologies and artificial intelligence will demand different methods than those we have employed against early generation killer-technologies.
Amnesty needs to understand and unpack not only the coming future of human rights but also and most importantly it needs to develop intensive and disruptive analysis of what changes in focus and methods are needed for this future. We must become nimble, adaptable and deft in applying human rights to new and challenging unknowns.
JOB PURPOSE
This fixed-term post will work directly under the direction of the Secretary General to explore human rights futures: What are the threats and challenges over the next two decades which will lead to complex human rights crises? What will be the impact of demographic changes, climate change and pandemics spilling over borders? Is Amnesty prepared for these systemic changes and the political and social challenges they will unleash?
The post is funded by dedicated and time-limited funding from OSF, which ends on 1 May 2022. The postholder can be based in any of the International Secretariat location: Colombo, Dakar, Jerusalem, Johannesburg, London, Nairobi, Tunis.
The job is placed at Grade 5 of the Amnesty pay scale, subject to location. The work pattern would ideally be full time (35 hours per week), but this is negotiable.
