Community Liaison Manager, Myanmar (3 Month fixed term contract with possible extension)
Base location: Cambodia
The starting salary package for this position is £31,800 GBP / approx. $43,000 USD including all allowances per annum
About the Myanmar programme:
Following decades of armed conflict, Myanmar has one of the highest levels of landmine contamination in the world, yet no clearance activities are permitted. MAG has worked there since 2013, but since the coup in February 2021, there has been an increase in violent conflict, shelling and militarisation which has increased the vulnerabilities to conflict and explosive ordnance (EO). As there is no national agreement allowing the clearance of landmines, Mine Risk Education (MRE) remains the best way of reducing the casualty rates from mines and other Explosive Ordnance to date.
Due to the ongoing political situation in Myanmar, it is not possible for the role to based in country and the successful candidate will therefore be based in Cambodia.
About the role:
Reporting to the Senior Community Liaison Manager, we are seeking a Community Liaison Manager (CLM) to work as part of our Myanmar programme structure. You will be responsible for remotely leading MAG’s initiative in establishing a strong presence in the Rakhine and Chin states, through deploying and managing MAG’s Community Liaison capacity, mobilising and supporting partner teams, and coordinating closely with other humanitarian organisations. You will assist in designing and delivering relevant Training of Trainers (ToT) and will be responsible for directly implementing these into targeted communities alongside conducting contamination baseline assessments to gather crucial information on contamination in villages of origin. Alongside this, you will need to establish positive working relationships with others and develop a positive reputation whilst remaining a reliable partner. MAG’s CLM’s are essential to our life-saving work and this is a great opportunity to take a leading role in this area of our work.
About you:
You will have experience of leading, motivating and managing national staff, have strong participatory learning and facilitation skills and experience working with downstream partners and remote management. In addition, you should have experience in designing and delivering formal or informal training, with the ability to organize and coordinate activities or projects. Previous experience in Risk Education, Community Liaison and Non-technical Survey is desirable. The successful candidate should also have strong skills in team management, information management, and monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment. In addition, you will have solid field experience in community-based work and participatory approaches. We would be especially pleased to hear from you if you have this experience in a Humanitarian Mine Action context, although this is not essential for the role if you have the necessary transferable skills. Previous experience in the Myanmar context is also highly desirable.
