Technical Specialist At Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Technical Specialist to support with the research and evaluation work into the Workforce Nutrition (WFN) and the SUN Business Network (SBN) programme across our global offices.

This role is offered on a full time, fixed term contract of up to 24 months, subject to funding. This role can be based in any of the following GAIN offices: London, UK; Washington DC, US, Utrecht, Netherlands or Delhi, India .

About GAIN

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the role

Under supervision of a Senior Technical Specialist, and working with staff from relevant programmatic areas across GAIN, the Technical Specialist will manage a range of tasks related to program support (nutrition, research, evaluation, experience) and support the development of learning agendas. This will include the integration of implementation research, program process and impact evaluation and the translation of that evidence for decision making among diverse audiences.

Specific responsibilities include;

  • Leading on in-depth literature reviews of specific topics relevant for nutrition and food systems
  • Supporting the evidence translation, implementation of the research and learning agenda for WFN and SBN, and ensure effective knowledge mobilization
  • Supporting the project design process, contributing evidence to decision making on design
  • Supporting the development of Monitoring and Evaluations frameworks for different programmes ensure consistency in reporting
  • Liaising with the relevant teams to ensure that all field activities related to monitoring, learning and evaluation are completed according to the project implementation timeframe and budget
  • Conducting and preparing statistical analysis of existing and new datasets to answer questions pertaining to the need, performance and effectiveness of nutrition and food systems programs
  • Preparing reports and participating in research research dissemination

About you

To be considered for this role, you will need to meet our criteria that focuses on relevan skills and experience, including;

  • Solid programme M&E experience – from design through analysis and dissemination
  • Experience in evidence reviews and preparation of research protocols essential
  • Experience in performance management of nutrition and / or food systems programmes
  • Excellent understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods and analysis
  • Experience working with private sector desirable
  • Educated to Masters or PhD level in nutrition or a relevant field

About our offer

The starting salaries on offer for this role are as follows:

Utretch, Netherlands: 47,142 – 50,509 EUR per annum, dependent on experience

London, United Kingdom: £38,172 – £40, 904 per annum, dependent on experience

New Delhi, India: 1,014,641 – 1,160,663 INR per annum, dependent on experience

Washington DC, United States: $72,400 – $77,585 per annum, dependent on experience

GAIN has a fair and competitive salary structure that allows for annual progression subject to good performance. In addition, GAIN offers a total of 37 days holiday per year (including annual leave, public holidays and additional office closure days), an attractive pension scheme and competitive insurance cover including health, travel and life assurance.
