Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

Under its Emergency and Post-Crisis (EPC) Unit and Migrant Assistance and Protection Unit (MACTU), IOM Thailand implements a range of national and regional projects aimed at addressing migration challenges and delivering increased protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants.

In particular, “Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar Muslims from Rakhine State and Special At-Risk Groups” and “Addressing Rohingya Refugees and Other Migrant Protection Risks due to COVID-19 and Maritime and Land Movements in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand” projects aim to improve physical and psychosocial well-being of irregular migrants in Immigration Detention Centres (IDC), Shelters for Children and Families, and Welfare Protection Centres for Victims of Trafficking in Thailand. Additionally, the “Asia Regional Migration Program” aims to improve the capacity of IDC and government-run shelters in providing physical and psychosocial support to victims of trafficking.

Under the direct supervision of the Project Officer in EPC and the National Project Officer in MACTU, working in close coordination with the project staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for working with the project teams in providing direct psychosocial care to migrants and to contribute to the implementation of project activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Provide administrative support to vulnerable migrants in Shelters for Children and Families, Welfare Protection Centres for Victims of Trafficking and Immigration Detention Centres;
  2. In coordination with project staff and local authorities, assist in conducting psychosocial activities, such as but not limited to therapy, informal group discussions and peer support,
  3. Assist in preparation of needs assessments and pre/post evaluation of special needs cases and individuals, as well as statistical information and reports on the psychosocial assistance provided by IOM to its beneficiaries (number of cases, nationalities, age, etc.);
  4. Assist the project staff in delivering the psychosocial care training for service providers, including to government and non-government counterparts;
  5. Maintain positive relations with local implementing actors and stakeholders for the successful and timely implementation of above-mentioned duties and services;
  6. Undertake regular travels within and outside of duty station as may be required for official duties and providing psychosocial services;
  7. Any other related duties that may be assigned by supervisor.

3. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Completed at least an undergraduate degree or an equivalent of 2 years working experience in the field of Psychology, Mental Health or Social Work.
  • Counselling experience, ability to use clinical counselling and psychological assessment tools is an asset.
  • Experience in conducting psychosocial counselling and intervention for victim of trafficking and vulnerable migrants is an asset.
  • Computer/software literate, especially MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

4. LANGUAGES

Required: Fluency in English and Thai.
