We are looking for an experienced and innovative individual to join us as Head of Business Partnerships. In this vital role, you will create new approaches that enhance Save the Children’s engagement with business and philanthropists in a way that facilitates their contribution to development outcomes by leveraging their unique assets and capabilities.
Save the Children has developed a new strategy outlining how we will help children to survive, learn, be protected, and to flourish in the face of the biggest threats to their futures – Covid, Conflict and Climate Change. We must grow and build new partnerships focussed on impact, which deliver resources, influence, engagement and skills in support of our global and country goals. The Head of Business Partnerships is key to ensuring we have the creativity, drive and skills to work with businesses and philanthropists to co-design programmes that realise our ambition for children.
As Head of Business Partnerships, you will work with colleagues across Save the Children UK and our global movement to enhance our engagement with large and small corporates across our key sectors – Health and Nutrition, Education, Child Protection and Child Rights Governance, Child Poverty and Climate. In addition you will:
- Lead the Business Partnerships Hub in Save UK, to identify and engage with companies that can contribute to Save the Children’s breakthroughs through core business engagement skills transfer.
- Lead Save the Children’s Global Business Partnerships and Innovation Network to build our global capacity to develop cutting edge programmes and approaches to partnership with business and philanthropists.
- Provide technical support to Save the Children International (SCI) country programmes and other members on how to effectively engage with key corporate and philanthropic partners at the national level during the design and implementation of programmes.
- Represent SCUK in key UK and international initiatives focused on engaging business in delivering development outcomes in key base of the pyramid (BoP) and market development networks such as Business Fights Poverty and Business in the Community.
The successful candidate will be an experienced private sector development professional with direct experience of working in or with the private and philanthropy sectors. Experience of working within a company to drive development impact will be an asset. With excellent strategic thinking capability and highly developed influencing skills that draws on core business, technical expertise and financial resources, your business engagement skills will enhance our ability to pioneer and leverage our work to impact tens of millions of children’s lives’ across the globe. In addition, you will have:
· An excellent knowledge of private sector approaches for Base of the Pyramid in developing countries and fragile states (e.g., collective action, shared value, and corporate responsibility).
· Experience strengthening businesses contribution to development outcomes through core investments. Experience of working in or with a large corporate on inclusive business or core business issues in two or more of the following sectors will be an asset – health, climate, nutrition, livelihoods, resilience, education, and child protection.
· Extensive experience and/or excellent understanding of the contribution of private business to social and economic outcomes.
· Strong leadership skills – which make you able to develop and deliver on a strategy, contribute to a cross organisational leadership team and to lead and develop your high performing team.
· Experience in networked leadership – working remotely and in different geographical locations.
· A proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships and demonstrate that you value the opinion of others.
· Willingness and ability to travel abroad for events and activities which further objectives and create impact, and which cannot be achieved remotely.
