Background

Our CRS University and Hispanic Engagement Team is seeking up to 10 Virtual Spring 2022 interns to be part of an internship and leadership cohort. Internships will be fully virtual, are paid hourly at the Maryland minimum wage (or your state’s minimum wage if higher). Internships can be used for class credit or to fulfill degree requirements, pending discussion of your university’s requirements. If you do not currently have US employment authorization, please see the note at the bottom of the job description about participating in an unpaid, volunteer capacity.

The following dimensions will be part of the internship experience:

  • Reading and discernment on topics such as identities, social location, spirituality, equity, culture, and the dynamics of power and privilege
  • Analysis individually and as a cohort of the ways in which these dynamics and topics shape our educational and professional trajectories, faith journeys, leadership experiences and work for the common good
  • Development of new leadership skills in alignment with educational and professional goals
  • Design and implementation of a CRS Campaign capstone project on campus during the Spring 2022 semester
  • Accompaniment through weekly mentoring sessions with BIPOC CRS Staff

Primary Internship Responsibilities

The internship and leadership experience will be broken down into 4 key components:

  1. 2 hours weekly: Individual readings, reflections and assignments
    1. Covering topics such as identities, social location, spirituality, equity, culture, and the dynamics of power and privilege
    2. Completed as preparation for weekly cohort meeting
  2. 2 hours weekly: Cohort Meeting
    1. Small and large group sharing and reflection based on the weekly individual readings and reflections
    2. Leadership skill building workshops
    3. Panel conversations with BIPOC CRS Staff and professionals
  3. 3 hours weekly: CRS Campaign Capstone Project
    1. 30-minute weekly check-in with CRS Staff to discuss progress
    2. 2.5 hours weekly independent working time using a guided process to:
    3. Discern and select a Capstone Project concept
    4. Build relevant leadership skills
    5. Participate in professional development experiences
    6. Implement the project on campus before the end of the internship
    7. Projects will need to be aligned with our CRS Campaigns on Migration and Hunger (i.e. raising awareness, fundraising, and advocacy) or our CRS University Chapters (i.e. outreach or creation of a Chapter). Extensive guidance and support will be provided.
  4. 1 hour weekly: Mentoring and Accompaniment
    1. 30 minutes: intern prepares for mentoring by developing questions and reviewing goals
    2. 30 minutes: intern meets with BIPOC CRS Staff mentor

*Note: The first 1-2 weeks will be focused on onboarding and orientation, so the 8 hours may not be allocated exactly as listed above.

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate student
  • Ability to reliably perform a virtual internship, including having access to the appropriate technology (computer, reliable WiFi, headphones, etc.)
  • Comfort with Microsoft products, especially Outlook for email, and Zoom
  • Strong communications and time management skills, especially in the virtual environment
  • Commitment to CRS Mission and Guiding Principles as well as to the CRS Lead the Way on Global Hunger & Migration Campaigns
  • Willingness to reflect and converse on topics of identities, social location, spirituality, equity, culture and the dynamics of power and privilege
  • Ability to commit to 8 hours/week for the duration of the Spring 2022 semester (January 10 – April 22), with possible break for 1 week of Spring Break
