DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
In collaboration with other departments, the Programs team plans, executes, and evaluates our programming around the world. This work includes access to medicines, emergency response, US and global programs, medical outreach, and four Americares free clinics in Connecticut. Strengthening local health centers and providing technical assistance and public health services in areas such as mental health, women and children’s health, infectious disease, hypertension and diabetes.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief of Staff will work alongside the Chief Program Officer to provide key leadership and coordination across the many facets of the US and Global Programs teams. They will collaborate with team leaders to determine and prioritize strategy for our work and assist the Chief Program Officer in continuing to build and iterate the future vision for the work. The successful candidate will also support the Chief Program Officer in researching, writing and publishing articles that support Americares position as a thought leader in the global health space. Specific duties and responsibilities are described below:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program and Organizational Leadership:
-Act as a strategic partner to the CPO in defining team vision, strategy and goals. Coordinate, build, maintain, and operationalize operating plans and budgets (in partnership with Programs leads and Strategy team)
-Lead on change management, team communication and team rollout of strategic aims and shifts
-Coordinate and plan team calls, quarterly report outs and debriefs, ensuring the team is set up for success and utilizes time together excellently
-Assist in measuring performance across Programs teamwork, and proactively troubleshoot when concerns arise
-Act as a liaison between Programs team leadership and other functional leaders, ensuring programs priorities are communicated and addressed
-Develop relationships across Programs team staff and understand priorities, workload, successes and difficulties.
-Partner with HR team to ensure adequate and appropriate resourcing and professional development to achieve programmatic objectives
-Step in to assist on key programs and projects as necessary and time allows
CPO partnership
-Support CPO in defining and executing on his priorities. Working with the Programs Associate, manage CPO’s schedule, and organize travel, as appropriate. Participate in key meetings alongside CPO.
-Work with CPO to research, write, and publish articles related to Americares work
-Support CPO in externally facing engagement and thought leadership, including curating participation, content development and distribution to extend impact

QUALIFICATIONS:
3+ years relevant experience in Chief of Staff role, or similar
Customer-service and solution orientations; ability to understand multiple stakeholder needs and balance strategically
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Strong research skill and written communication
Excellent project and time management skill
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and reprioritize focus
Passion for public health, global health, or similar
Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail
Must be resourceful and a demonstrated problem solver
Passion for our mission and the desire to work within the humanitarian aid field
Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
Fluent in a major language such as Spanish or French is a plus
