Head of Communications, Media and Public Relations At Save the Children

Save the Children Canada is a member of Save the Children International, a federation that works in more than 120 countries worldwide delivering programs focused on health and nutrition, education, child protection, child poverty, humanitarian response, and child rights governance. As the world’s leading independent organization for children, Save the Children’s vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. This position plays the lead role in promoting Save the Children, its work, and its key partnerships within the Canadian market. The Head of Communications, Media and Public Relations will develop a strategic brand and communications plan for the organization, and will lead and participate in the execution of that plan. Working with a team and external agencies, they are accountable for managing communications, public relations and media outreach with the aim of growing awareness, understanding and engagement to further strengthen support for Save the Children’s mission within the Canadian public. This position is a 13-month contract.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

· Oversight of internal and external Brand Presence/Brand Management, including development and execution of Brand Campaign

· Representing Save the Children Canada at Global Brand Working Group and sector Public Engagement Working Groups

· Responsible for development and management of Media strategy inclusive of development of Media products (op-eds, press releases, key messages) and campaigns

· Influencer management.

· Responsible for public facing communications related to Programs, Fundraising and Engagement. Requires copy writing and editing.

· Responsible for content production, managing multiple vendor/consultant relationships.

· Responsible for Crisis Communications in matters that represent a major threat to SCC’s work and/or reputation.

· Marketing Campaign development and coordination (integrated campaigns, engagement campaigns, global campaigns).

· Annual, quarterly, weekly strategic planning.

· General management functions (ie. Budget management, reporting, management of portfolios and team)

Qualifications & Competencies (include but are not limited to):

· Completion of University Degree. If yes identify the degree(s): public relations, journalism, communications or English.

· 5 to 7 years experience in Communications/Public Relations.

· Superior English writing skills; proficiency in French/Spanish/Arabic considered an asset

· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships across cultural and organizational boundaries with internal and external stakeholders, and managing through influence

· A strategic thinker with the ability to translate broad concepts into tactical plans

· Apply judgment and make sound decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and in adherence to organizational policies

· Strong project management skills

· Strategic-minded, and keen to think outside the box to secure/support innovative and exciting partnerships that deliver real benefits for the children and families we serve.

· Ability to work within tight deadlines and time pressures

· Ability to travel internationally on an occasional basis

· Must adhere to Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding policy and protocols

· Must Complete Police Vulnerable Sector Screening.
