Islamic Help is a UK-based international relief and development organisation that has developed rapidly since being established in 2003. Our programmes aim to help and empower disadvantaged communities in the UK and abroad; some of the key areas we work in are emergency response, WASH, education, livelihoods and environmental conservation.
We are currently seeking a Programme Officer for our International Development Department. The role is full-time and based at our headquarters in Birmingham.
The Role
The Programme Officer will provide comprehensive administrative support service to the Head of International Development.
Key Responsibilities
- To develop, maintain and review administrative systems to achieve maximum efficiency across the department.
- To produce professional documents to the required standard through the use of ICT to gather and present data.
- To prepare and present documents from a number of sources.
- To store, retrieve and supply information.
- To ensure the department keeps accurate records and that all relevant information is promptly entered on file and the admin database.
- To provide administration and programme support to the International Development Department as and when necessary.
- To ensure all projects operate seamlessly and efficiently by monitoring and evaluation of projects.
- To assist with budget reports and management.
- To assist the finance department in the updating of field office budgets and theme budgets.
- To work collaboratively with all internal teams, departments and donors and external agencies.
- To ensure the consistent application of Islamic Help standards and policies as they apply to the conduct of this role.
- Any other duties that are commensurate with the accountabilities of the post
SPECIFICATIONS
Essential
EXPERIENCE
· Experience of working within International Development Sector for at least one year as an employee
· Experience of maintaining office administration and recording keeping systems
· Experience of maintaining and managing own workload, and ensuring the department is up-to-date with all deadlines
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
· Good written and verbal communication skills in English
· IT literate with knowledge of Microsoft applications, and ability to learn to use new programmes
· Knowledge of office systems and practices
· Some knowledge of international programmes
ABILITY
· Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders
· To work on own initiative
· To work under pressure to tight deadlines and adapt to change

· Knowledge or experience of NGOs
· Written or verbal communication in French, Arabic and Urdu as the role involves communicating with field offices
· Positive approach to problem solving.
