Expert Development Policy* At Welthungerhilfe

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with a contract duration of two years. At the end of the initial two-year contractual period, there are good prospects for conversion of the contract from a fixed-term to an open-ended employment contract. Employment location will be Bonn, Germany.

As Expert Development Policy, you will work in Welthungerhilfe’s Policy & External Relations Unit and support german and international political processes that are relevant to worldwide nutrition. Your assessments contribute to the positioning of Welthungerhilfe, which you represent in the political and public discourse for a world without hunger.

Your responsibilities

  • Critical monitoring of relevant development policies at national and international level
  • Formulation of development policy positions and representation of these positions vis-à-vis national and international political decision-makers, business communities, civil society and the general public
  • Preparation of position papers, policy briefs and other materials
  • Conception and implementation of events, expert workshops, etc.
  • Cooperation with Welthungerhilfe’s program countries on relevant development policy issues
  • Preparation of briefings, presentations, articles, etc. for the Executive Board and the Presidium
  • Representation of Welthungerhilfe at external events as well as in relevant networks, committees and working groups

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in political science or a comparable qualification
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in development cooperation and/or humanitarian aid as well as in policy and advocacy work at national and international level
  • Several years of working experience in strategy formation and implementation as well as in the preparation of complex and cross-cutting analyses and concepts
  • Several years of representation experience with representatives from politics, business, civil society, science and media at national and (ideally) international level
  • Proven expertise within the following topics: Development policy, food security, world nutrition, rural development and/or climate change
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Persuasiveness and assertiveness with partners and decision makers from politics, administration and civil society
  • Very good command of written and spoken German and English; further language skills would be an advantage
