Engaging Consultant for Business Skills training
2. Background
JRS is an international organization with a mission to accompany, serve and advocate on behalf of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons. JRS has been involved in livelihoods and education activities for urban refugees in Nairobi for over 20 years with an established presence in Nairobi and Kakuma. JRS is implementing a business development project in Nairobi as part of the livelihood’s intervention. The project’s objective is to improve the self-reliance of urban refugees through skills training and provision of material support, supporting enterprise development and market linkages.
3. Rationale
The Livelihood and Psychosocial project, mainly targets refugees freeing conflict in their countries of origin and are resident in Nairobi. JRS intends to offer business skills training to 50 beneficiaries who are small business holders and mainly refugees resident in Nairobi.
4. Goal and Objective
The goal of this training is to equip the beneficiaries with entrepreneurial skills for management of their businesses to increase business stability, growth and sustainability.
In order to achieve this, we are calling for a proposal from a seasoned business trainer with experience in the mentioned areas to facilitate the training.
5. Scope of Work
Scope of the training course
- Impart necessary entrepreneurial knowledge, skills and attitude for starting and operating a business
- Train on basic business accounting and business performance to appreciate the need for maintaining business records
- Train the beneficiaries on how to draw up a simple business plan and revenue forecast.
- Train the beneficiaries on the business life cycle and understand the business environment
- Appreciate the role of market forces in determining prices of goods and marketing their produce.
- Understand the role of the government and regulatory bodies in relation to business activities
- Appreciate the role of communication and information technology in modern business management
- Champion the formation and training on savings group methodology;
6. Proposed methodology
The consultant will develop the training program and propose a methodology that will ensure the stated objectives are achieved.
7. Duration:
The 3 days training sessions will be done within a month of contract award and thereafter two 1 day mentorship sessions.**
8. Deliverables
· Prepare and submit training manual/content for the participants clearly stating the skills to be imparted in every lesson
· Prepare and submit a training plan and schedule/ work plan
· Prepare simple business tools template that beneficiaries will use to track their business
· Assessment report on acquired skills by the beneficiaries
· Share a draft report immediately after the training and a full report (in English) to JRS within two weeks of completing the training.
· Submit a simple and concise step by step guidebook for the design and implementation
of the business skills and financial training.
9. Accountability and Responsibility
JRS shall provide for:
· Venue for the training
· Meals and refreshments for the participants
· Fare for the participants
The consultant will be responsible for;
· Training materials including stationaries
· Trainers and training content
10. Required expertise and qualifications.
- Must be a holder of degree in entrepreneurship, business or any relevant field**
- Must have at least 3 years training and facilitation experience in entrepreneurship**
- Must have a business skills trainer certificate**
- Must have experience in training refugees population on the same subject**
- Must be willing to abide by JRS code of conduct and child protection policy**
Criteria for Selection of the Best Offer:
The evaluation for the consultant will be based on Combined Scoring methods – where the qualifications and methodology are given 70% weightage and the financial offer will be given 30% weightage. Only consultants meeting a minimum of 50 points under technical evaluation will be considered for the financial evaluation. The following specific criteria will be assessed:

· Demonstrated knowledge on business and entrepreneurship
· Demonstrates experience and skills in facilitation/consultation and coordination skills
· Relevance of Methodology, and activities presented in the conceptual framework submitted (expected deliverables and timeline, etc.)
Financial (30%)

Payment Schedule:
• 30% on signing the contract and submission of drafting ToT manual in English and a comprehensive list of contents to be included pre-workshop to ensure that all the required contents are included
•70% on submission of final training report in English and other template as may be required

JRS reserves the right to reject any application(s) without disclosing the reasons.
The deadline for application submission is 17th November 2021 at 18:00 (EAR Time).
Documentations:
While submitting the Technical Proposal, the Applicant shall ensure they attach the following:
• Presentation letter of the consultant (max 1 page) explaining why they are the most suitable for the work and including the financial proposal
• Recent CV with Relevant Experience
• Detailed methodology and conceptual framework with expected deliverable and timeline
Modification and Withdrawal of Bids:
The Bidder may modify or withdraw its bid after submission, provided that the written notice of the modification, or withdrawal of the bid is duly signed by the Bidder prior to the deadline.
