ROLE PURPOSE:

To support the coordination and implementation of Impact study on Forecast-based Action (FbA) pilot project(s) in Somalia/Somaliland. Through this project, Save the Children seeks to add value to the humanitarian ecosystem, filling the data and evidence gaps that prevent the sector from implementing systematic and effective FbA to protect children and their families’ livelihoods, nutrition, and well-being. The post holder will coordinate all early warning and early action activities at the country level, including monitoring FbA trigger indicators, data collection and analysis and dissemination for decision making, leading response analysis and contingency planning, capacity building, liaising with other FbA actors and supporting teams who are implementing early action/anticipatory action interventions. He/she will specifically support Community Jameel FbA project with a wider lens on all other anticipatory action initiatives and discussions at the country level.

For this study, the Research Associate will work closely with academic researchers from university University of California, Santa Cruz and other field staff to perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to: designing survey questionnaires, programming survey tools into SurveyCTO, conducting refining study design and survey plans, submitting and managing IRB and other research approvals, training and managing survey teams, monitoring field work using high frequency data checks, cleaning and analyzing data, assisting in the writing of project reports, and coordinating with key partners.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The Research Coordinator associate reports to and falls under the direct supervision of the Research Manager and works closely with the Principal Investigator on the project and research specialist, The Research Associate may from time to time perform other duties not listed in the job description.

DIMENSIONS:

Save the Children has been working in Somalia for more than 60 years. The Country Office has over 500 staff across 14 field offices (Boroma, Burao and Hargeisa in Somaliland; Bosasso, Garowe, Galkayo and Gardo in Puntland; Beletweyne, Adaado, Abudwak, Baidoa, Kismayo, Dhobley and Mogadishu in Central South Somalia). Our Country Office coordination and administration base is in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2017, as a result of significant scale up for the countrywide drought response, our annual spend FY2017 was US$117 million and we reached more than 2 million people through our humanitarian and longer-term development work in Health, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Education, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Child Protection and Child Rights Governance. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, business management, social sciences, public health, political science or related fields, Master’s degree preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency in STATA and experience with data management, cleaning, and analysis.
• Experience with quantitative research, particularly with randomized controlled trials.
• Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills;
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player
• Demonstrated ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations
• Experience running a large-scale survey and managing the survey implementation and data entry process
• Experience with Computer-Assisted Interviewing is preferred, but not required
• Fluency and excellent communication skills in English language.

Able to work independently and with limited supervision.
