About the Position
Dexis supports Jefferson Consulting Group through the USAID Southern Africa Mission Support (SAMS) contract to provide program, administrative, financial management and acquisition and assistance support services to USAID’s Missions and offices in the Southern Africa region, including the Power Africa office. This position will support the SAMS project and be located in Lusaka, Zambia.
The Development Outreach and Communication (DOC) Specialist manages communications, social media, and events for the USAID Mission in Zambia, including producing or reviewing program fact sheets, speeches, press releases, photos and briefers, ensuring that branding and marking compliance.
The DOC Specialist develops electronic and print materials, and coordinates preparation of a wide range of events, trips, reports, briefings, presentations, memos, publications, newsletters, press briefings and other related methods of communication. The DOC Specialist must be expert in synthesizing complex technical issues and subjects for presentation to diverse stakeholders and audiences, including the press.
The DOC Specialist will have specialized training and experience in communications related to development programs in an overseas context, and will be highly knowledgeable about USAID’s branding and marking requirements.
Responsibilities
- Draft and edit written documents for internal USG purposes, including presentations, talking points, responses to HQ taskers, briefers, etc.
- Draft and edit external-facing communications materials including social media content, success stories, press releases, internal updates, speeches, etc.
- Provide support for a wide range of program operations including, strategic planning, activity planning, and reporting as required.
- Provide advice and support on current program activities as needed.
- Contribute to the development of mission-wide systems and processes for program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting (e.g. Mission Orders, Performance Management Plans (PMPs), CDCS/RDCS, Regionalization, USAID Forward and checklists).
- Support efforts to develop new program activities.
- Plan and provide logistical support for events, including scouting and booking venues, coordinating with partners, inviting speakers and attendees, ensuring necessary equipment, and more.
- Prepare analyses/assessments, approval memoranda, procurement related inputs etc.
- Temporarily fill-in for Program Office personnel while they are on leave or attending conferences and training activities.
- Identify knowledge assets and knowledge work at USAID/Zambia.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum 6 years of work experience in communications, at least three of which must be in an international development context.
- BA or BS in Communications or a related field.
- Previous experience with USAID preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to build and manage complex relationships with clients, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain a USG Facility Access clearance.
- Ability to legally work and reside in Zambia.
- Ability to work independently, take imitative once guidance is provided, and manage several activities simultaneously and under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel and Word) and the Google G Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides) are required.
- Knowledge and understanding of international development, cross-cultural dynamics, and program management required.
