Operations Manager – (1) position, Kampala

Save the Children International Uganda, is currently recruiting the Operations Manager for USAID/BHA funded Uthabiti: Building Resilience through Market-Led Livelihoods Opportunities Project. The Operations Manager will have the overall responsibility for providing leadership for the SCI component for effective delivery and development of projects in Lamwo & Isingiro district. As a member of project management team, and Uthabiti Consortium leadership group. s/he will be responsible for representing applicable SCI field issues to the Chief of Party and sharing in the responsibility for the direction, and oversight of SCI’s operations. The Candidate will be responsible for supervising the MEAL and Award management components of the project and support the operations team in fulfilling its full spectrum role at the country and field office levels. The role will provide steer and support effective field operations management and program delivery in Lamwo & Isingiro. The Operations Manager will closely monitor key performance indicators for program delivery, as well as ensure that bottlenecks are addressed through the facilitation of collaborative work across functions. The Operations Manager will work closely with CoP, Director of Engagement and other technical teams of partner organizations in award coordination and management and ensuring that the project is integrated and there are synergies while ensuring that project implementation is well aligned to approved design, SCI program quality benchmarks and contributes to SCI’s overall country and global outcomes and breakthrough for children.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential:

  • Master’s degree in development, other social sciences; or bachelor’s degree with 7 – 10years experience working within a complex NGO and matrix structure on Project cycle management
  • Recommended 5 – 10 years management experience in an NGO environment, including significant experience in am implementing and managing large field-based operations and multi-sector programs
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage an effective team with at least three years of direct management experience, and/or expertise with remote operational/logistical/financial management.
  • Familiar with effective financial and budgetary controls, management and understanding; managing grants from USAID
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organise a substantial workload, for self and others, that includes complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities in both development and emergency contexts
  • Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills, as well as demonstrated credibility with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of an organization
  • A high level of resilience, willingness to travel frequently to field locations.
