Advocacy & Communications Manager At Save the Children

The Opportunity

The Advocacy & Communications Lead will be part of the team implementing the “Literate Village” Project. S/he will work under the supervision of the LV Chief of Party, in close collaboration with the Technical Manager as well as the Communications Department of Save the Children. The Advocacy & Communications Lead will be accountable for designing, executing and managing – in conjunction with LV COP & Technical Manager – a fully-integrated project communications, campaigns, and advocacy plan that helps achieve the strategic vision and goals of Literate Village in Egypt. S/he will manage the production of all advocacy & communications material produced by the project, orchestrate strategic online and ground-level advocacy campaigns in collaboration with the Technical Manager and the project’s Community Mobilization component, and perform and oversee other activities as needed towards increasing the project’s visibility, engagement, and building trust in target communities and the Egyptian context. The post-holder will expand the reach and presence of Literate Village in digital and print portals, design and manage a robust internal communications system to ensure effective content gathering and propagation, and oversee and manage the work of LV Communications staff as well as that of external consultants, such as photographers, videographers, and translators. In conjunction with the Technical Manager & MEAL Advisor, s/he will participate in high-level project documentation as needed, such as technical reports, research papers, case studies, and quarterly & annual reports for the project, and will ensure compliance with branding & marking in all communications material utilized by the project.

Qualification and Experience: –

Essential

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Media, Journalism, or PR is essential.
  • 7-9 years of experience, including experience in a humanitarian/NGO and/or Development context as well as experience in delivering top-level communications output
  • Experience working in an NGO environment in a communications & awareness raising capacity.
  • Experience in developing communications strategies and plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce top-level copy content, including case studies & briefing papers (samples will be required).
  • Excellent skills in communications work & solid knowledge of communications material production process.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop research as well as conduct quantitative/qualitative studies and surveys on the ground, including ability to engage scholarly sources, design statistical approaches, and write strong, publishable research papers.
  • Good knowledge of design skills and industry-standard design software, including Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, and After Effects.
  • Exceptional written & verbal skills in both languages, including ability to edit, proofread, and produce compelling content for a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct, clear, and compelling manner.
  • Strong public speaking skills in both languages, including ability to deliver presentations, training, and public speeches to a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail & orientation to goals and results.
  • High-level analytical, logical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal & networking skills, including ability to manage team, engage stakeholders, and cultivate external relationships & partnerships.
  • Multicultural experience and a high level of cultural awareness & sensitivity, including ability to interact with beneficiaries, donors, and international partners, and ability to produce communications material directed at a wide range of audiences, ranging from local village beneficiaries to audiences in a donor’s host country.
  • Excellent planning, management, and coordination skills, including ability to organise a heavy workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks as well as meet tight deadlines.
  • Penchant for creativity, innovation, and originality, and a desire to inspire creativity among team members, field staff, and beneficiaries.
  • Flexibility and resilience; ability to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attitude of continuous learning, improvement, and adaptation.
  • Agility, carrying out field visits on short notice and taking other swift actions as per rising needs.
  • A high level of motivation & willingness to take initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Passion for empowering lives and transforming communities through education.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children, particularly a good understanding of Save the Children’s mandate and child focus

Desirable

  • Experience with teaching, education and/or educational programs & best practices.
  • Willingness to contribute extra hours if necessary to meet project objectives.
