This Life is seeking an experienced, dynamic Business Development Manager. The Business Development Manager will identify and cultivate new strategic relationships to source new funding opportunities for This Life’s existing programs, and newly developed programs as they arise, that will increase revenue, enabling This Life to carry out our mission.

This Life is an award-winning community development organisation that believes in listening to, engaging with, and advocating alongside families and communities as they define and act on their own solutions to complex social issues. This Life currently operates programs in three sectors: Children and Families, Education, and Community Research and Consultancy. The Strategic Engagement team is responsible for fundraising, marketing communications, donor management, and communications in support of the organisation’s programming needs. **
The Role
The Business Development Manager (BDM) forms a critical part of the Strategic Engagement Section. The BDM is responsible for identifying and securing funding from a diverse portfolio of funders.
- To familiarise and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organisation
- Assist in delivering This Life’s strategy objectives by ensuring that This Life is meeting or exceeding annual financial targets through a mixture of grants, corporate partnerships, philanthropic funding, sponsorships, and workplace giving
- Identify and track relevant upcoming funding opportunities through advance intelligence gathering, partner relationships, and other available resources
- Continues to develop and maintain a master file of pending, existing, and past grants and contracts through the use of the digitization system (Salesforce)
- Develop concept notes, proposals, grants, and gather supporting documentation, and submit in a timely manner
- Meet established KPIs for the position, solving problems effectively, efficiently, and creatively utilising sound judgement and maintains strict confidentiality
- Responds to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals
- Represents the organisation’s business development interests at relevant meetings, events, specific peer networks
- Maintains positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders
- Provides support for This Life’s existing strategic partners as and when required
- Reviewing grant contracts, ensuring program coordinators, section leads and finance understand and can comply with funder’s terms and conditions and deliverables
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Collaborate on information sharing between program coordinators and senior management, and external stakeholders
- Contribute to organisational planning and strategic directions
- Stay abreast of development and NGO sector trends in Cambodia and regionally, submitting recommendations for This Life program direction, and provide input to strategic planning.
- Facilitate connections for Executive Director, Deputy Director, and the Director of Strategic Engagement, with relevant stakeholders (civil society, government, funders, etc.)
- Regularly brief the Senior Management Team and Program Coordinators on relevant developments in policy, NGO and donor networks
- Regularly brief Senior Management Team on funding opportunities and strategic alignment to program areas
- Contributes to the development and management of organisational knowledge, with a view to succession planning
Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum three years’ experience in a similar role in a comparable national/international organisation
- Proven track record of meeting challenging income targets
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Excellent technical skills in writing, editing, formatting, research, negotiation, and verbal communications
- Ability to effectively communicate with and coordinate activities of multiple partners, including field-based staff
- Demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy, composure, flexibility, and ability to adapt to a variety of situations
- Strong initiative with ability to seek out relevant information prior to making timely decisions
- Strong organisational skills and ability to coordinate complex activities and use good judgement to prioritise conflicting demands and meet deadlines
- Ability to work proactively and independently, solve problems and take responsibility for moving tasks forward with minimal supervision
- Excellent grammar, editing and proofreading skills to produce complete, correct correspondence, proposals, and reports
- Strong communication skills with ability to clearly express ideas, thoughts, and concepts verbally and in writing
- Willingness to work as an effective, enthusiastic member of a team
- Experience in a similar role in Cambodia or in the Asia region
- Salesforce experience
- Strong understanding of one or more of This Life’s programming areas that includes – Gender Equality, Education, Child Protection, Poverty Alleviation & Livelihoods, and Juvenile Justice
