Project Description:
The project aims to promote rural urban development through enhancement of the market and entrepreneurship focus of climate smart agricultural producers and MSMEs both upstream and downstream of agriculture in Uganda. Support BDS to consider the different categories of Climate smart agro-MSMEs by structuring their engagements with key value chain actors this may include financial institutions, suppliers, markets and help them understand motivation and incentives for stronger and formalized relationships with the other actors, and in turn strategically position them to effectively respond and sustain such relationships.
Objectives of Experts will be.
• Conduct document review of previous studies done by the program to map MSMEs this includes Private Sector Actors mapping, Labour assessments, Situation analysis and Post-Harvest Handling assessment report.
• Develop a criterion for selection of MSMEs to apply and participate in the activity.
• Undertake a rapid assessment/ institutional capacity assessment (ICA) of 60 MSMEs within PRUDEV areas of engagement.
• Establish criterion to aid identification of ten (10) business mentors and conduct a workshop to build the capacity of mentors to train and coach MSMEs.
• Conduct strategic and business planning sessions.
• Develop a simple business training and mentorship manual.
• Conduct linkage meetings/activities between MSMEs and potential market actors or experts for mutual business benefit.
Specific tasks for Team leader:
• Overall responsibility for the advisory packages of the contractor (quality and deadlines) Coordinating the project and ensuring communication with GIZ, partners and others involved in the implementation of the MSME activity
• Support in personnel management which may include identifying the need for short-term assignments within the available budget, as well as planning and steering assignments and supporting local experts
• Regular reporting in accordance with deadlines
• Implementation of detailed tasks described
Requirements
• Education/training: professional with a Master’s degree in Economics, Rural Development, Agriculture, Agribusiness or related subjects
• Languages: excellent business language skills in English, Lango, Acholi
• General professional experience: 10 years of professional practical experience in the sectors of rural enterprise development, or related fields
• Specific experience: 8 years in enterprise appraisal and business trainings, experience in agribusiness trainings, extended knowledge on Climate Smart Agriculture or related fields
• Regional experience: 5 years of practical experience in projects in Northern Uganda namely in Acholi and Lango regions
• Development Cooperation (DC) Experience: 5 years of experience in DC project.
