Community Health Project Coordinator At Trócaire

Trócaire works in partnership with local organisations, supporting communities in over 20 developing countries across Africa, Asia, Central America and the Middle East to bring about lasting change. Trócaire has been working in Gedo in health & nutrition and education for the last 30 years. Currently, Trócaire implements Health, Nutrition, Humanitarian and Education Programme activities and in partnership with local organisations working in Gedo in the livelihoods, protection and resilience sectors as partners.

The Health and Nutrition programme is recruiting a Community Health Project Coordinator. The primary responsibility of the Community Health Project Coordinator will be to provide technical and program management support in integrated community case management of childhood diseases and other related community health projects. Under the supervision of the Health and Nutrition Programme Manager, CHP Coordinator will coordinate all iCCM child activities in supported districts. S/he will participate in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of appropriate and sustainable approaches related to iCCM to contribute to the achievement of project deliverables.

Reporting to the Health and Nutrition Programme Manager. This is fixed-term position for one year and is based in Gedo region of Somalia.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Programmes

· Work closely with the HPM and MOH to implement ICCM interventions at both facility and community levels.

· Conduct ToTs on iCCM and supportive supervisions for the In Charge of CHWs using updated/innovative approaches.

· Specifically, monitor the implementation of iCCM activities and ensure that activities are executed according to the work plan.

· Actively participate in the preparation of the project work plan, budgets, and technical reports for submission to the line manager.

· Provide technical support and guidance on key program approaches for childhood illnesses and iCCM, including sustainable approaches to mentoring iCCM Supervisors.

· Conduct supportive supervision for the iCCM supervisors and CHWs to ensure quality implementation of iCCM activities in accordance with Somalia’s national guidelines for Community Health Strategy.

· Prepare, avail job-aids, and training materials in coordination with the Procurement team and ensure that materials and supplies reach target sites in a timely manner.

· Assist in organizing meetings, training, field visits, events, and other project activities.

· Update the iCCM supervisor on field visit findings, propose solutions, and monitor their implementation as well.

· Compiling project donor reports giving feedback and ensuring that reports are of good quality through regular verification of the data and meet the indicator expectations.

· Ensure that the CHWs have adequate stocks and provide the medicines according to the previous month’s consumption.

· S/He will ensure integration of protection and gender throughout project implementation. This includes the introduction of mechanisms to enable women to participate in decision making around public health issues.

· Represent Trocaire in relevant meetings organized by supported Districts.

· S/He will carry out any other relevant tasks assigned by the line manager within the scope of the program implementation plan.

Logistics & Procurement:

· S/He will work with Procurement and Warehousing team to prepare and execute a procurement plan to ensure favourable lead time for the procurement team.

Monitoring and Evaluation:**

· In close collaboration with HPM, develop and monitor learning and documentation activities related to iCCM in supported districts.S/He will in collaboration with the MEAL team, set up programme impact/process monitoring systems and collect relevant secondary data relating to disease patterns, facilities and Trocaire programmes.

· Collaborate with the MEAL team to ensure that the learnings from the project implementation are being tracked and the information analysed to inform the changes being brought in the project.

· Lead efforts to translate program data and findings into programmatic guidance.

· S/he will work with the Trocaire management team in the field in monitoring and reporting progress, and, adopts agreed changes in project design to conform to varying contexts.

· S/he will develop a monthly activity schedule based on the project work plan to facilitate timely implementation.

· S/he will contribute to the preparation of monitoring and assessment tools in collaboration with the MEAL team.

· S/he will prepare and submit timely weekly/monthly reports to the Humanitarian Programme Manager.

Coordination

· Where necessary, S/He will strengthen relationships between Trocaire, UN agencies and beneficiaries, (community leaders and government agencies) working closely with all project stakeholders.

(E) Qualification

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine and Community Health, or Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health with a background in nursing. A strong requirement of Valid and current license to practice from relevant bodies.

(E) Experience

· Additional training related to child health, Malaria or Community health and project planning and management

· Minimum of 5 years of experience in community health-related activities and programs.

· Previous experience managing community health and ICCM implementation projects

· Skilled in community health surveillance, M&E and at least two or more of the following technical areas: strengthening service delivery programs, training, pre-service education, performance, and quality improvement.

· Proven track record in crafting community mobilization, sensitization and awareness-raising activities.

· Training and capacity building skills in (iCCM) or Integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI)

· Knowledge and experience of undertaking assessments and analysing the results.

· Fluency in written, spoken English and Somali languages is mandatory.

· Knowledge of different working standards and ethics including SPHERE.

· Demonstrable experience in managing teams, supervising and training others.

· Ability to prioritize and commit to meet deadlines.

· Relevant post-graduate qualification in health or related field.

· Experience of working in Gedo.

· Experience in Project Management, CHAST and CHS will be an added advantage.
