MIO Risk Management Trainer & Advisor (m/f/x)
CONTEXT
The Risk Management (RM) Trainer & Advisor contributes to the security and safety support to the missions of MSF-Operational Center Brussels (OCB) in terms of training, assessment and advisement. He/She may also be involved in a crisis management mechanism for OCB.
He/She is a member of the Risk Management Unit (RMU), belonging to the Operation (OPS) department
He/she reports regularly to the MSF-OCB RMU Coordinator (SFP) on the state of projects within his/her domain.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Capacity Building and Training
- Conduct Risk Management & Crisis Management trainings at the headquarter and field level (target audience logistics team, Field coordinators; Head of missions, Desk).
- With SFP, can be a facilitator of crisis management workshops for partner sections (target audience GD, SILT Team).
- Evaluate needs for new trainings
- Contribute to the design & elaboration of the training’s offer in the RM area of expertise
Security assessment, Risk Analysis & Risk reduction
- Conduct RM assessment & contribute to the Risk Analysis and Risk Reduction process for the benefit of the missions
- Contribute to the design and elaboration of operational tools concerning RM of the MSF-OCB missions
- Contribute to the RMU operational research projects
- Active search for innovations, new ways of working in the field of security management to strengthen the training panel of the RMU. both on the content and on the pedagogical means of training
Security support to the field
- On request, provide an operational support to the missions for the design and implementation of RM procedures in the field
- Contribute to promote an embedded RM culture among MSF-OCB missions
- During field visits, works with Regional CElls, Coordination teams &/or Project teams to identify major constraints within our security management and to identify opportunities
- Contribute to the RM “Individualized support” with identified HOM, Field Cos or Log Co.
Crisis Management Preparedness
- Contribute to the reinforcement to FIMT (Field Incident Management team) capacity at mission level (trainings, E-learning modules)
- Participate to the preparedness of the CIMT (Central Incident Management Team) (Kit hardware/software maintenance)
- Participate in collaboration with SFP on Partner Section CIMT trainings and/or Regional OCB Hub
Note: Risk Management Trainer & Advisor is not supposed to intervene during a CIMT (this is SFP responsibility, but it remains possible that he/she could be deployed to support a layer of the crisis management mechanism if the need arises.).
Other Tasks
- Assist and back-up the Security Focal Point on request.
- Participate to the daily administration of the MSF-OCB incident reporting system.
- Participate to the researches of MSF-OCB in the RM area of interest.
CONTEXT SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- 33% in the field. 33% in Brussels HQ. 33% can be from Home
- Field visits are once a trimester.
- Most of the trainings take place in Brussels, but sometimes elsewhere (Abidjan, Kampala…).
- This position requires an important availability as the field support can happen during working days, nights or weekend.
- In case of Crisis cell at OCB; the RMU is highly impacted. Important flexibly is also required during this period.
- The position can be under an important amount of stress due to the security situations to follow/support.
REQUIREMENTS
Experiences
- Previous humanitarian experience with an IO/INGO is mandatory
- Minimum 5 years in the field with an IO/INGO, 2 years in volatile context
- 2 years’ experience in a coordination position (Field Coordinator, Head of Mission, Emergency Coordinator)
Competencies
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to plan and organize in stressful environment
- Strong capacity to work under pressure
- Sense of humor is highly appreciated
- Self-Questioning & open to criticism is absolutely essential
Languages
- Fluent written and spoken English and French. Arab or Spanish are a plus.
CONDITIONS

- Contract type: Fixed Term Contract – 1 year – Full-time
- Location*: Brussels
- Mobility of around 30% in the field
- Salary according to MSF-OCB HQ grid – Meal vouchers – Hospital Insurance (DKV) – Pension Plan – 100% reimbursement for public transportation costs
