IYCF Officer ( 1 Position) Kismayo– Somali-National only**
Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organisation for children. We work in 120 countries. We save children’s lives; we fight for their rights; we help them fulfil their potential.
We work together, with our partners, to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.
We have over two million supporters worldwide and raised 1.9 billion dollars last year to reach more children than ever before, through programmes in health, nutrition, education, protection and child rights, also in times of humanitarian crises.
Following a major transition, our international programmes are now delivered through a merged operation with 15,000 staff, managed through seven regional hubs and reporting to a relatively small, central office. We’re changing to become more efficient, more aligned, a better partner, a stronger advocate, a magnet for world-class people and relevant for the 21st century.
ROLE PURPOSE:
Particularly in internally displaced population (IDP) situation, where the risks of malnutrition, and illness are significant and heightened in children under two years of age who are not breastfed, and in infants under six months of age who are not exclusively breastfed. The World Health Organisation recommends that infants be exclusively breastfed for 6 months and that breastfeeding continues with introduction of complementary feeding at six months until 2 years or more. Ensuring that these recommendations are upheld is considered key in contributing to the survival of infants and young children in IDPs and poor host community settings. Save the Children abides by the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and relevant resolutions as well as the Operational Guidance for Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E).
To manage and scale-up the IYCF-E Program in the other areas under her scoop of work to ensure that the all components of the program are functioning properly, providing quality care to all the beneficiaries while respecting guidelines and principles of good practice e.g. the Operational Guidance on IYCF-E, the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and subsequent relevant resolutions, and SPHERE 2011).
