Know our team
Nutrition International’s Business Development (BD) unit is a diverse team of dedicated professionals with extensive global experience in resource mobilization and non-profit fundraising for international development. The unit leads, coordinates, and supports funding identification and positioning, grant acquisition, and relationship cultivation processes with institutional and private donors and implementing partners. The BD unit works closely with other teams across the organization to grow and diversify resources for Nutrition International’s global strategy and Investment Case. The BD team is located in Nutrition International’s Headquarters in Ottawa, Canada, with dedicated counterparts within our Regional Offices in Africa and Asia. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Business Development Manager to be based in Canada.
About you
As part of Nutrition International’s Business Development Team, the Business Development Manager will report to the Director, Business Development and will be responsible for helping secure financial resources for Nutrition International (NI). We are looking for candidates with experience in developing comprehensive proposals for projects funded by donors such as U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.K.’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the European Union, Global Affairs Canada (GAC), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and others. Successful candidates will have proven experience in developing high-value winning proposals preferably in the fields of health, nutrition, and gender empowerment.
You are someone with a post-graduate/advanced university degree required in social sciences, international development, marketing, management, business or public administration, or related fields, required (Master’s level qualifications preferred). You have 5-10 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in resource development, project management or related field, preferably in a not-for-profit environment. You are experienced in project development and design expertise, including developing logical frameworks, performance measurement frameworks and budgets with a proven track record of success developing competitive, high-value proposals. Demonstrated experience in managing, leading and writing USAID bids will be considered an asset.
Fluency in English is required. French will be considered an asset.
About the role
In this role you will:
- Lead the cultivation of prospective donors, including preparing for, leading, and participating in ‘pitch’ meetings.
- Manage the development, finalization, and submission of project proposals to donors.
- Manage the post-submission period in close collaboration Operations, Corporate Services and Country/Regional Office teams.
- Support internal partners (Operations, Corporate Services) in ensuring key contractual obligations with donors are effectively met such as ensuring timely submission of reports that meet the expressed satisfaction of donors.
- Domestic and/or international travel is required – not expected to exceed 30 days a year.
