Social Specialist (Advance Program for Climate-Smart Agriculture and Agro-logistics) At Global Communities

Global Communities is seeking a Social Specialist for a project. This program, lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 years, will support groups of producers practicing subsistence agriculture to achieve increases in production and productivity, integrating them into the formal market through the promotion and incentives of productive partnerships, the adoption of practices and approaches aimed at preventing or mitigating the adverse effects of climate change, and small business groups to offer technical assistance, complementary goods to primary production and/or processing, and agro-logistics services to primary producers.

The Social Specialist will coordinate the execution of the project’s social management process, ensuring, in coordination with the Environmental Specialist, compliance with the requirements of the relevant Environmental and Social Standards of the Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) in the formulation and execution of the participating groups’ business plans. They will assess social risks and ensure that measures are included to avoid, minimize, or mitigate them, as relevant. They will also design strategies to promote social inclusion processes among participating groups, establishing and monitoring the grievance and complaints mechanism and maintaining adequate communication with counterpart environmental and social teams and national authorities. Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all actions are framed and comply with national and ESF standards for social inclusion and environmental protection, in coordination with the Environmental Specialist.
  • Facilitate training courses and conferences on inclusion, women’s empowerment, and related topics to ensure that project staff integrate these topics into their programming.
  • Conduct a study on gender disparities and multigenerational inclusion; develop and implement strategies based on this study.
  • Promote and facilitate the participation of young people in project activities.
  • Evaluate social risks in business plans and nutrition and hygiene plans and ensure that measures are included to avoid, minimize, or mitigate them.
  • Ensure the implementation of protection and safeguard policies.
  • Facilitate participatory and consultative mechanisms with communities, including the establishment and necessary monitoring of the complaints and grievance mechanism.
  • Promote the process of social inclusion in the participating groups.
  • Promote the methodology for the preparation and execution of Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP).
  • Develop a map of providers of services for the prevention and care of gender-based violence.
  • Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports on project implementation and monitoring.
  • Support the development of project management indicators as part of the project’s Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Plan.

  • University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in social work/social management, sociology, anthropology, history, psychology, economics, or another relevant to the job duties, with a master’s degree in any social, economic, or development discipline.
  • At least five (5) years of work experience promoting, supporting, or advising processes of participation and social inclusion, preferably with indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples of Honduras or other regions of America
  • Knowledge of the indigenous and/or Afro-descendant context and verifiable work experience in the Honduran region.
  • Proven work experience promoting inclusion processes for specific groups such as youth, women, indigenous and Afro-descendant people, people with disabilities, and the elderly in agricultural or rural development programs or projects.
  • Proven experience in social risk assessment and management for programs or projects in rural areas.
  • Proven experience in facilitating, supporting, or implementing organizational strengthening processes in communities, family groups/producers, and/or organizations in rural Honduras.
  • Proven experience facilitating training processes on social issues for various stakeholders in rural areas, with the ability to adopt processes and methodologies for culturally diverse groups.
  • Ease of verbal and written communication.
  • Leadership and ability to coordinate with technical teams from different disciplines.
  • 100% proficiency in Spanish (spoken, reading, and writing).

  • Knowledge of the indigenous and/or Afro-descendant context and verifiable work experience in the project region.
  • Verifiable work experience in promoting the inclusion of specific groups such as youth, women, indigenous, and Afro-descendant peoples, the disabled, and the elderly in agricultural or rural development programming.
  • Verifiable experience in social risk assessment and management for programs or projects in rural areas.
  • Verifiable experience in facilitating, supporting, or executing organizational strengthening processes in communities, family/producer groups, and/or organizations in rural Honduras.
  • Proven experience in facilitating training processes on social issues for different actors in rural areas, with the ability to adopt processes and methodologies in culturally differentiated groups.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
