Aim of the position:

The Psychologist will be responsible of proving in-person and online psychological support and sessions to survivors of SGBV, facilitating safe referrals, in the various project areas including Aqaba, Gweirah (Aqaba Governorate), Zarqa, Ajloun and Rihab (Mafraq Governorate). The project aims to contribute to promoting and safeguarding the protection of the most vulnerable groups among Syrian refugees and Jordanian host communities through an integrated framework of protection, assistance, empowerment and social inclusion. This will be done by strengthening community systems and resources for the protection and social inclusion of the most vulnerable groups among refugees and host communities in Ma’an, Aqaba, Zarqa, Ajloun and Mafraq Governorates as part of a multi-sectoral protection and health intervention. Furthermore, the project prioritizes gender-sensitive approaches and the prevention and response to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

The role requires independent mobility across various sites and the capacity to offer remote support via secure online platforms when needed.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Provide individual or group psychological counseling sessions, psychological support and follow-up to the cases in need, with specific attention to SGBV survivors ensuring a survivor-centered approach;
  • Conduct assessments of the psychological and psychosocial needs of cases referred by Case Managers and develop personalized care plans in close coordination with Case Manager and relevant service providers;
  • Maintain comprehensive, accurate and secure documentation of cases, ensuring confidentiality, consent and adherence to data protection standards;
  • Ensure that all duties are carried out in full compliance with core protection principles, including Do No Harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability, and a survivor-centered approach;
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to the Protection Coordinator and Project Manager, highlighting key developments, challenges and emerging needs;
  • Engage in case management reflection and learning activities, contributing to the documentation of lessons learned, best practices, and recommendations aimed at enhancing quality and effectiveness of service delivery;
  • Responsible for the delivery of trainings and capacity building in the area of responsibility (e.g. PFA, GBV case management, Trauma-Informed care etc.);
  • Collaborate with AVSI MENA region social workers coordination and initiatives;
  • Maintain proven and documented weekly communication with the Project Manager and Protection Coordinator;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager that are consistent with the role.

Essential requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Psychology, Clinical Psychology or a related mental health field. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is considered a strong asset;
  • Specialized training in SGBV case management, trauma counseling, or psychological support is highly desirable;
  • Possesses a high level of professional competence in conducting psychological assessments and evaluations to guide appropriate treatment planning and intervention, and to deliver individualized psychological counseling;
  • Demonstrated understanding of safeguarding based approach.

Required skills and experiences:

  • Minimum 4-5 years of professional experience providing psychological support in humanitarian or development settings;
  • Proven experience working with SGBV survivors, including case management, trauma care, and survivor-centered approaches;
  • Demonstrated experience in training and capacity building. Capable of facilitating structured learning opportunities for staff and partners on topics related to psychological support, trauma-informed care, and GBV case management;
  • Skilled in using online case management platforms and digital communication tools;
  • Effective and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;)
  • Knowledge of community-based psychosocial interventions and participatory approaches;
  • Experience in working with vulnerable and refugee communities and on protection issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic;
  • Strong reporting skills;
  • Team-working skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries;
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to the field;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
  • Empathy and respect for diversity.
