Who are we ?
Inter Aide is a French NGO specializing in implementing development programs for particularly disadvantaged families. Since its creation in 1980, its areas of action have been access to water, hygiene, and sanitation (WASH), agriculture, health, and educational support. These programs are implemented in particularly isolated rural areas, combining high levels of need with high population density, and where the context is sufficiently stable to develop actions geared toward the long-term autonomy of populations.
Following a prospecting process in Guinea Conakry initiated in 2017, Inter Aide launched two projects in Upper Guinea in the Kankan Prefecture, in the areas of WASH (water, hygiene, and sanitation) and community health. The community health program activities began in October 2021.
The objective of the project is to improve the health of children and women in the target area by combating the major pathologies that affect them (main communicable diseases, factors related to maternal and/or reproductive health, etc.). The program is structured around the following two axes:
- Raising awareness/training rural communities on preventive practices and early care-seeking attitudes to adopt;
- Support for local public health services to improve access and quality of care for rural communities, including the establishment of community health workers and the strengthening of rural health posts.
