We are looking for three Child Protection experts to join Save the Children Norway At Save the Children

Child Protection is a key challenge across all sectors and contexts. We work across the globe in development and humanitarian settings to prevent and respond to violence against children. Through child rights programming based on the UN Convention on the rights of the child we work to strengthen child protection systems, including case management and community-based child protection. We address violence against children in homes, schools and communities in collaboration with the global Save the Children movement and key partners, from children and local communities to NORAD and the NMFA.

Save the Children Norway’s department for Programme Quality and Impact is now seeking to fill three vacant positions as child protection senior advisers:

  • Senior Adviser Child protection
  • Senior Adviser Safe schools
  • Senior Adviser Child Protection in Emergencies

The advisers will contribute to implementing Save the Children’s global strategy and Save the Children Norway’s specific strategic ambitions for child protection and education outcomes, both in humanitarian and development contexts.

WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO:

  • Achieving child protection strategic goals through integrated programmes
  • Development of strong rights- and evidence-based programs including new and innovative approaches
  • Technical support and mutual capacity-strengthening at all levels
  • Proposal development and design, engaging with major donors
  • Ensuring non-discrimination and equal rights to protection of all children by addressing e.g. poverty, gender and children with disabilities
  • Shifting power through child participation, strengthening local partners and holding duty bearers to account
  • Identification and piloting of contextually relevant technology in partnership with country office staff
  • Research, evaluation and capturing learning across programs globally
  • Internal and external networking and coordination, representation of Save the Children in relevant foras

ROLE SPECIFIC:

  • The Senior Adviser Safe schools will contribute to Safe Schools quality implementation, programme design and advocacy for adoption of the Safe Schools declaration. Global thematic leadership on Safe Schools strategy development, knowledge management and innovation across all contexts.
  • The Senior Adviser Child Protection will contribute to all context overview of Child Protection risks and occurrence, contribute to programming and advocacy for quality child protection systems. Engaging with field level colleagues and partners to drive quality, impact and integration of child protection programmes across sectors.
  • The Senior Adviser Child Protection in Emergencies will contribute to strategy development, quality implementation, proposals and advocacy for Centrality of Protection. Engaging with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Norwegian Humanitarian Strategy. Ensuring effective cooperation with Save the Children’s global humanitarian team.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THESE POSITIONS, YOU ARE LIKELY TO HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Academic qualifications at master’s level in a relevant discipline
  • Experience working with global programming, and solid knowledge of child protection policies and programming
  • Field experience from developing countries and/or humanitarian responses
  • Documented skills in donor engagement proposal development, programme design, results documentation and reporting
  • Experience with designing and delivering capacity building/mentoring and technical support to colleagues and partners – both virtual and face to face.
  • Relevant experience with advocacy, campaigns and communication across country, regional and global levels
  • Basic skills in child rights and child participation
  • Excellent working proficiency in English, both verbal and written. Proficiency in French and Spanish is preferrable. Knowledge of Arabic and a Scandinavian language is an asset.
  • Willingness and availability to travel

ROLE SPECIFIC:

Senior Adviser Safe Schools:

  • Field and global level experience from Safe Schools programming and advocacy.
  • In depth knowledge of the Safe Schools declaration.
  • Expertise in child protection systems and school management
  • Knowledge of integrated child protection and education programming
  • Field level experience from education programmes in developing countries

Senior Adviser Child Protection:

  • Solid expertise working with child protection programming in a development context
  • Strong knowledge of one or more of the following the sub-thematic areas: integrated education and child protection programming; child protection systems strengthening; and case management
  • Experience working with positive parenting; sexual and gender-based violence; and/or community-led child protection programming
  • Experience working with integrated child protection programming across sectors
  • Experience with child protection programming across the humanitarian-development nexus
  • Programming experience from West and/or Central Africa, including French-Speaking countries

Senior Adviser Child Protection in Emergencies:

  • Strong understanding of CPiE sector, challenges and opportunities including the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action
  • Expertise in Centrality of Protection policy and practice.
  • Experience working in emergency contexts, and in humanitarian protection
  • In depth knowledge of the Norwegian Humanitarian Strategy and the NMFA
