Volunteer Recruitment and Adult English Program Part-time Consultant At Collateral Repair Project

Organization Background:

Collateral Repair Project (CRP) is a grassroots effort in Amman, Jordan that provides much-needed assistance to vulnerable communities. We seek to assist those in need, foster social cohesion, offer learning opportunities, and help build peace and reconciliation. Our services are provided free to people of all nationalities–including those from Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Sudan, Yemen, Somalia–regardless of background.

CRP’s holistic approach involves community engagement. We help individuals build resilience and heal from trauma. CRP has two locations in Amman where we provide educational, recreational, and wellness activities to aid our community to gain skills and gain confidence. We provide service and leadership opportunities and this has proven to be a key driver of empowerment and resilience. CRP’s greatest strengths are the deep knowledge and trust we have established with the families we serve, our commitment to community-based engagement, and our ability to develop nuanced, cost-effective, and impactful programs.

Work Environment:

Our team brings together staff members and community volunteers in a dynamic work environment where personal initiative drives success. We are passionate and dedicated to making a difference. We are good listeners who value efficient teamwork. Our two community centers are vibrant spaces where hospitality, enthusiasm, and cheerfulness are encouraged. We make the well-being of our staff on top of our priorities and have implemented a 4-day work week for all employees at CRP. Furthermore, our centers are open 6 days a week to ensure they remain lively and accessible to the community.

Consultancy Tasks:

CRP engages with a great number of volunteers and interns from both the local and international communities every year. This part time consultancy is to support excellent communication between CRP and our volunteers and interns. CRP offers volunteer-led Adult English Conversation Clubs at both Amman community centers and this consultancy is also to support the oversight and communication necessary to keep the Adult English program running smoothly.

  • Oversee and coordinate CRP’s Adult English Conversation Clubs (hereby referred to as “ECC”) at both Hashemi (HS) & Downtown (DT) community centers, including:
    • Be aware of existing electronic English teaching resources; set leveled lesson plans and adequate supplemental teaching materials
    • Take responsibility for communicating with the English Volunteer teachers via WhatsApp groups.
    • Keep in contact with active volunteer English teachers and with CRP Program Officers at both centers to ensure that at least one teacher and one assistant teacher are scheduled and confirmed for each class.
    • Ensure that the volunteer teachers have timely access to the syllabus and appropriate lesson plan resources.
    • Give orientation to new English volunteers and ensure signatures collected on CRP onboarding and policy documents.
    • Step in and be a substitute ECC teacher if needed.
    • Train volunteers to monitor students, especially new students showing up to lessons for the first time, to ensure that detailed attendance is taken.
    • Restructure ECC at both centers to run in 10-12 week sessions, with short breaks in between to reflect and prepare.
    • Prepare for and launch a “level zero” English class for complete beginners.
  • Streamline the recruitment process of local and international volunteers; monitor the volunteer application form, communicate with the program officers at both centers, and work to match potential volunteers not only with the ECCs but also with other CRP programs and activities where the help of a volunteer is wanted or needed.

Qualifications, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Desire to work in the humanitarian sector, education, and program management.
  • Flexibility to be present at both CRP community centers (Hashemi Shamali and Downtown Amman) afternoons and to follow up on important tasks remotely.
  • University degree in a relevant field, and previous work experience in teaching, administration, scheduling, public relations, and/or program management.
  • Native or fluent English language proficiency required and at least intermediate Arabic highly desirable.
  • Qualification and/or demonstrated experience as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

The successful applicant agrees to keep regular afternoon hours at HS and DT and be present routinely at the English Conversation Clubs and agrees to keep Deputy Director and HS and DT community center leads informed of activities, schedule, events, problems.

Anticipated level of effort is part time / 15-20 hours per week. This is a six-month part-time consultancy with possibility to continue. Compensation to be determined, expected range is JD 200-300/month.
