The Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in evaluating, designing, and overseeing the implementation of mechanical systems within bakery production facilities. Working in close coordination with the Bakeries Directorate and local stakeholders, the engineer will assess the technical condition of existing bakeries, develop mechanical designs (including ovens, mixers, conveyors, and ventilation systems), and contribute to the preparation of specifications and tender documents. The role involves supervising equipment installation and maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards, and training local teams on the safe and efficient operation of equipment. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in mechanical engineering, hands-on experience in bakery or food industry projects, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and technical leadership.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the technical status of existing bakeries and determine the needs of production lines and mechanical systems.
  • Prepare technical designs and plans for mechanical systems (ovens, mixers, conveyors, motors, ventilation systems, etc.) in cooperation and coordination with specialized engineers from the Bakeries Directorate.
  • Contribute to the preparation of specifications, technical specifications, and tender documents related to mechanical works, in cooperation and coordination with specialized engineers from the Bakeries Directorate.
  • Supervise the installation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, in coordination with local suppliers and technicians, in cooperation and coordination with specialized engineers from the Bakeries Directorate.
  • Verify the operational efficiency of systems and ensure their compliance with technical standards and project requirements, in cooperation and coordination with specialized engineers from the Bakeries Directorate.
  • Prepare bills of quantities and estimated costs for the required mechanical equipment, in cooperation and coordination with specialized engineers from the Bakeries Directorate.
  • Provide technical support during the procurement, inspection, and installation process, in cooperation and coordination with specialized engineers from the Bakeries Directorate.
  • Ensure safety procedures are implemented during mechanical work.
  • Document technical work and submit periodic reports on progress, challenges, and proposed solutions.
  • Train local teams to operate and maintain mechanical equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in the design, supervision, or maintenance of mechanical systems, preferably in infrastructure, bakery, or food industry projects.
  • Additional certifications in occupational safety, mechanical design, or project management are desirable.
  • Prior experience working in emergency or development contexts, preferably within NGOs.
  • Solid understanding of key sectors such as food security, livelihoods, health and nutrition, WASH, education, and recovery programs.

III. Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in the design, supervision, or maintenance of mechanical systems, preferably in infrastructure, bakery, or food industry projects.
  • Additional certifications in occupational safety, mechanical design, or project management are desirable.
  • Prior experience working in emergency or development contexts, preferably within NGOs.
  • Solid understanding of key sectors such as food security, livelihoods, health and nutrition, WASH, education, and recovery programs.

IV. Technical and Professional Skills

  • Proficiency in reading and analyzing technical drawings.
  • Strong command of engineering design software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word required), internet tools, and software relevant to project management and reporting.
  • Skilled in preparing accurate, well-structured technical and narrative reports.
  • Familiarity with international and local technical standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
