General Description of the Programme:

GOAL has been working in Syria since 2013, responding to the acute needs of conflict-affected communities. GOAL is working in Idleb Governate, both through direct implementation and through partners, delivering food, non-food programming to highly vulnerable populations, and provision of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) through support to Water units, as well as emergency support to recently displaced households.

Job purpose:

The Staff Care Officer is responsible for the implementation and co-ordination of the GOAL Staff Care strategy. They will be tasked with providing culturally sensitive support, trainings and workshops for staff and management and promote wellbeing throughout the staff life cycle. This role will focus on building staff resilience, stress management team building and peer support. The Staff Care Officer will provide advice on the strategic direction of staff support and well-being.

Duties, objectives and competencies

The Staff Care Officer will submit a weekly and/or monthly written report in English. This will record the staff care strategy implementation and evaluate progress.

PEER SUPPORT GROUP TRAINING:

  • The Staff Care Officer will be tasked with promoting the staff care strategy and staff care supports.
  • Provide trainings on types of stress, vicarious and secondary trauma, self-care strategies, team building, active listening, how to deliver PFA and when to refer staff for external support.

STAFF CARE PROMOTION

  • He/she will promote the role of the peer support group and their activities and promote team building activities.
  • He/she will be responsible for enhancing visibility of staff care resources and supports via posters and leaflets.
  • The Staff Care Officer will be tasked with preforming regular workshops for staff on key staff care and well-being topics.
  • Staff care Officer will provide staff with the opportunity of developing self-care strategies.
  • Workshops will be based on but not limited to the following key areas;
  • Physiological First Aid (PFA)
  • Dealing with Trauma
  • Resilience and stress management work life balance .
  • The Staff Care Officer will support, and structure team building and aim to encompass a multifaceted range of activities to suit all staff.
  • The Staff Care Officer will design a peer support programme and peer support training.
  • The Staff Care Officer will be tasked with promoting the staff care strategy and staff care supports. He/she will provide and disseminating information on well-being and other topical issues. The Staff Care Officer will be tasked with promoting the work life balance of management and staff such as the importance of taking holiday and TOIL days.
  • The Staff Care Officer should be linking in with the HR manager regularly to discuss staffing issues.

MONITOR WORKLOAD AND TASK DISTRIBUTION

  • The Staff Care Officer will meet with staff at the beginning and at the end of their assignment. He/she will deliver staff care inductions to all new staff which focus on developing a self-care strategy and information on stress management and work life balance.
  • Following a critical incident, the Staff Care Officer will be on hand to provide PFA to staff and refer staff to external support where necessary.
  • The Staff Care Officer will be tasked with integrating staff care into policies and protocols as appropriate.
  • The Staff Care officer will work and receive a direct support from HR manger in all reports and statues he may have.

Requirements (essential)

  • At least third year university student on Psychology, Education, Social sciences, or any relevant degree or institute graduate.
  • Relevant qualifications in a Mental Health or Human Services or Social Science discipline.
  • 3 years’ experience in staff caring, wellbeing, Team Building, PSS, case management, protection or safeguarding.
  • 2 years’ Experience in managing and leading trainings and capacity building.
  • 1 year of experience in staff care or HR role in NGO highly prefer.
  • Attended trainings/courses on TOT, Team Management, PFA, Trauma, workload management or stress management.
  • Basic English Level to write and read in English.
  • Cross-cultural experience and background in staff care and resilience support to groups and individuals and support after a critical incident.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Flexible team player.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision with Good analytical skills and Ability to complete tasks within a set time frame.
  • Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian issues
  • Ability to create an environment in which others can talk confidentially and within a climate of established trust.

Requirements (desired)

  • Good individual counselling, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Good MS experience with good reporting skill.
  • Good English Level to write and read in English.
