Mission and objectives

IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement.

Context

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Resource Management Officer and overall supervision of the Regional Information Management and Technology Officer, the successful candidate will provide overall assistance and daily technical support to users of information management tools and technology infrastructure will provide technical support for desktop troubleshooting and user orientation. 1. Provide IT support for IOM Budapest project related activities. 2. Assist in the installation of systems, network components and software; suggest best technical solutions in order to achieve programmes/projects standards and objectives. 3. Monitor systems and networks (LAN, WAN) and perform essential maintenance such as server controls, data integrity tasks (back-up, disk space etc). Install and update hardware and software. 4. Assist in the installation, operation, and administration of security for the various system and network components, including protection against viruses, access to Internet, implementation of IT disaster recovery services. 5. Monitor and identify major gaps and provide recommendations to address any associated risks to minimize downtime and maximize effective utilization of organizational IT resources. 6. Implement in-house information systems, communication infrastructure and video conference system to support day-to-day operations. Support the implementation of IOM’s corporate applications such as MiMOSA, PRISM and Intranet. 7. Maintain the office’s ITC inventory for hardware and software, including regular updates to the technical documentation of IT networks. 8. Provide ITC assistance and/or training to all end users to ensure productive use of the IT and telecommunications resources. 9. Maintain relationship with local IT partners, suppliers and providers. Make recommendation to the Resource Management Officer in view of optimizing IT performance of the Budapest’s offices. 10. Ensure that all IT and communication equipment is always functional and properly handled, 11. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

Required experience

3 years of experience in LAN/WAN networking environment. High school degree with 5 years of experience in LAN/WAN networking environment may be accepted. • Experience on implementation and administration of Microsoft Windows network environment (LAN/WAN), messaging systems, backup and recovery systems and first level network/desktop support. • Good knowledge in managing and supporting multi-site IT Infrastructure and Application services: Windows Active Directory and Messaging Systems, TCP/IP, Telecoms, Network Protocols, Cisco devices, VPN, VoIP, MS Office and O365, Antivirus Software and utilities. • Any other IOM official language would be considered as advantageous.
