Mission and objectives

IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement.

Context

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Task description

The incumbent under direct supervision of Head of Unit, the Emergency Coordinator and in close coordination with the Regional MHPSS coordinator, and under the technical supervision of the IOM Global Section on Mental Health, Psychosocial Response, and Intercultural Communication will engage and coordinate with the Ministry of Health (MOH), Directorates of Health (DOHs), UN/NGO partners and national focal points for MHPSS to: • Coordinate an interdisciplinary psychosocial mobile team (PMT) to ensure timely and effective execution of a programme’s activities, equitable and appropriate allocation of tasks and responsibilities within the team, technical support and supervision of community focal points and volunteers, as well as transparent and accountable use of allocated financial resources; • Ensure the needs of the programme’s sites and assets are collected and reported to management; • Organize the maintenance of dedicated assets, materials, and spaces, keeping inventory, attendance sheets, logbooks, and simple administrative records; • Organize and chair teams’ coordination meetings; • Organize and chair case management or activity management meetings; • Identify training needs and resources of the teams and volunteers and report them to the manager and the technical supervisor; • Maintain established coordination and partnership with other PMTs, civil society organizations, including local NGOs, faith-based organizations, women’s and youth groups, and parents and teachers’ associations, as they relate to the work of the team.

Requirements

Required experience

5 years of experience in mental health and psychosocial programming; • Previous experience in MHPSS work, community work, and in managing small teams; • Experience in communicating and working with a wide range of people, including people of culturally diverse backgrounds; • Excellent oral and written language skills in English and Hungarian, Russian and Ukrainian language skills are a clear advantage; • Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively in written and spoken English; • Public health qualification will be an added plus; • Excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; • Ability to work with tight deadlines; • Practical experience in the provision of community-based MHPSS in emergency contexts; • Practical experience working with refugees and/or conflict affected communities and individuals; • Working experience with IOM and knowledge about IOM’s community-based MHPSS approach is a clear advantage; • Participation in the IOM Summer School “Psychosocial Interventions in Migration, Emergency and Displacement” is an advantage.
