Role Summary
We are seeking a Partners Due Diligence Expert to lead mixed-methods, risk-based due diligence of local partners, with a strong focus on finance (internal controls, budgeting, audits, disallowed costs), M&E (evidence quality, results frameworks, data systems), safeguarding, data protection, and downstream partner management. The Expert will design lean data-gathering tools, conduct on-site/virtual assessments, produce clear risk-tiering judgments, and steer partner-led improvement plans.
Key Responsibilities
Lead contextualized due diligence of partners (desk review; office walk-throughs; key informant interviews; systems observation); develop country modules and lightweight tools to reduce burden on partners; test the “spirit vs. letter” of controls across governance, financial controls, legal compliance, ability to deliver, risk management, humanitarian practices, data security, safeguarding, and partner management; ensure ethical, culturally sensitive, French-language engagement; deliver concise reports with actionable recommendations; co-create cohort strengthening plans, facilitate check-ins/peer learning, and track progress toward risk reduction and compliance improvements.
Minimum Requirements (Must-Haves)
Fluent French speaker (required); substantial, recent experience working in DRC and other francophone countries; 7+ years in due diligence, audits/assurance, or evaluations with strong finance and M&E depth; proven ability to design and implement mixed-methods assessments (including field visits); excellence in report writing and stakeholder facilitation; strong grasp of safeguarding, data protection, and ethics; Bachelor’s/Master’s in finance, accounting, economics, public administration, international development, or related field.
Strong Assets
Professional audit/assurance credentials (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIA) or MEAL certifications; English proficiency and Swahili/Lingala an advantage; experience building cohort development plans and delivering light-touch policy coaching; familiarity with INGO/NNGO compliance and risk-based tiering approaches.
Location & Travel
Travel to DRC or the Great Lakes/West-Central Africa region; ability to operate in complex, low-connectivity settings with robust data security and duty of care practices.
