Technical Advisor – Regional Biodiversity Advisor At Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

Place & Modality

Local Position, Full time; Project office in St. Lucia, occasional regional or international missions.

Duration

October 2025 until September 2026, with possibility for extension.

Duties

  • Provide advisory services to CARICOM in the field of biodiversity and governance, with a specific focus on the implementation of the Caribbean Biodiversity Strategy.
  • Provide capacity development support to CARICOM, national Biodiversity Focal Points in the region, as well as other relevant partners on various biodiversity aspects.
  • Support with the development of National Ecosystem Assessments in St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the mainstreaming into national policies, plans and strategies.
  • Provide advisory services on biodiversity, climate change, natural resource management, blue economy and related fields to other relevant GIZ projects in the Caribbean.

Profile requirements

Qualifications

  • University degree in biology, environmental studies, natural resource management, political sciences, project management or a related field.
  • Specializations or certifications in a related field desirable.
  • Candidate must be a Citizen of Grenada or hold a valid work permit for this country.
  • 5 to 10 years’ professional experience, with at least 5 years professional experience in a comparable position.
  • Demonstrated experience in Small Island Developing States with a focus on biodiversity and natural resource management.
  • Work experience in or with CARICOM, OECS, or other relevant regional/ national institutions (public and private), and/or international cooperation sector’s organizations.
  • Proven experience in policy guidance, providing capacity development support as well as coordinating complex multi-stakeholder settings.
  • Excellent advisory, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong teamplayer with excellent communication, facilitation, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Fluent written and oral knowledge of the English language, Spanish or French would be considered an asset.
  • Gender competency.
  • Very good knowledge of ITC technologies (e.g. Ms. Office).
  • Willingness to travel in/outside the region regularly.
