Overview of position:

  • Under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer & the overall supervision of the Head of PDSU & COM, the Digital Media Assistant will provide assistance for related activities & will ensure that cooperation with implementing partners is according to agreed action plans.

Role objectives:

  • Produce content for international audiences in the form of assisting to develop press notes & creating visual human interest stories from the field.
  • Visit the field to collect photographs, video clips, beneficiaries’ stories & program descriptions that highlight our client in Libya’s presence & overall strategy for the mission’s publications & communication channels.
  • On a weekly basis capture & edit photos & videos about our clients activities & produce at least one finalized story to be posted on the mission’s social media platforms each week.
  • On a monthly basis collect, edit & produce a video story about our clients activities related to specific project or donor specific requirement.
  • Provide general advice on content sharing & ways to engage public & followers with the organization’s different platforms for a growing audience.
  • Supports digital campaigns in support of our clients interventions & beneficiaries, in collaboration with other communication offices, if needed.
  • Monitor social media channels & flag any issues of concern to the PI team, including negative mentions & misreporting & propose ways to respond appropriately.
  • Be responsible for building a pool of photos & videos of our clients activities on a timely basis, make sure that our clients in Libya at all times has access to latest high quality photos about the field activities.
  • Contribute to the inclusion of appropriate gender awareness in our client in Libya PI material.
  • Support PI training for field staff on photography, story collection & videography & build internal PI capacity.
  • Work closely with our client in Libya operational colleagues to cover our clients activities with text & audio visual material, including for visiting detention centres & other relevant locations.
  • Build relationships & collaborations with universities & local media outlets.
  • Identify relevant media / communications opportunities to promote our client in Libya’s work in Libya.
  • Ensure consistent visibility of our clients Libya’s activities in the field & produced material.
  • Ensure donor visibility in line with donor guidelines.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Project reporting:

  • This role works under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer & the overall supervision of the Head of PDSU & COM.

Key competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Public Relations, Social Sciences, International Relations or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with 4 years of relevant professional experience or High School Degree with 6 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Experience working in communications, advocacy, journalism or related area is required.
  • Fully proficient computer skills including use of relevant softwares & other applications (e.g. Adobe Suite including Photoshop, Premiere or Final Cut) is required.
  • Experience of producing visual communication products is desirable.
  • Previous working experience in a relevant field with an international organization is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Effective organizational skills & ability to establish priorities & plans, ability to work under pressure & cope with deadlines.
  • Good written & spoken communications skills, good interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multi cultural environment.
