Finance Assistant At Danish Refugee Council

The Danish Refugee Council is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, working in over 40 countries to provide adequate assistance and protection to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees, people on the move, and vulnerable local populations/host communities. DRC is currently seeking a highly qualified Finance Assistant based in Carúpano, Venezuela.

About the work:

DRC is managing its operations in Venezuela, under the direction of the country office in Caracas and three field offices located in the states of Sucre, Apure, and Zulia. DRC Venezuela is implementing activities such as protection monitoring, legal assistance, individual protection assistance for PWSN, information sessions for PoC, prevention of human trafficking, rehabilitation of health infrastructure, and food security.

Position Overview : You will be responsible for supporting the financial operations of the Sucre Base to comply with internal, external, and regulatory requirements, in accordance with DRC and donor standards.

Responsibilities:

Treasury

  • Control, safeguard, and manage the cash in the office’s petty cash register.
  • Banking portal management
  • Prepare and record payments to suppliers and employees corresponding to the operation of the Carúpano office.
  • Ensure the accuracy of bank, cash, and revenue accounting reports.
  • Prepare bank and cash account reconciliations.
  • Maintain monthly records of advance payments from suppliers and employees in accordance with DRC procedures.
  • Verification of travel expenses according to the travel tables established by the DRC in Venezuela.

Financial Management

  • Monthly payment planning for the DRC Venezuela National Office.

Audit management

  • Support the organization in all types of audits and requests for information from donors/HQ.
  • Respond to audit requests.

Accounting management

  • Record all transactions carried out by the DRC Venezuela National Office in the ERP.
  • Record the necessary adjustments in the ERP by the DRC Venezuela National Office.
  • Maintain physical and digital records of supporting documents, accounting receipts, bank statements, bank books, and cash registers.
  • Review that accounting documents comply with legal, accounting, and tax requirements.

Information

  • Preparation of reports for accounting closings and reporting to third parties from the corporate ERP.

Experience and Technical Competencies:

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Experience in performing administrative tasks.
  • Good communication skills
  • High level of detail
  • Work motivation in the humanitarian sector
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Well-developed organizational and planning skills to meet deadlines
  • Experience working in Humanitarian Organizations is preferred.
  • English proficiency preferred
  • Fluency in the local language.

Education:

  • Diploma or professional degree in Accounting or related fields.
