Technical Advisor in BioWaste and Sargassum Management At Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

  • Coordinate and implement project activities in Grenada, St. Lucia, Dominica, Grenada, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Guyana.
  • Advise national institutions on the development of regulatory frameworks for the productive use of organic waste and sargassum.
  • Support in the design and implementation of three thematic innovation competitions focused on organic waste and sargassum management.
  • Support municipal waste management companies and private sector actors in developing and implementing technological solutions for the environmentally sound and productive use of organic waste and sargassum.
  • Provide capacity-building support to CARICOM and other relevant stakeholders on the sustainable and productive use of biowaste and sargassum.
  • Coordinate project activities with Expertise France, World Bank, EU Delegations, DG INTPA, and other key donors involved in the sargassum sector.
  • Facilitate dialogue and partnerships among relevant stakeholders.
  • Foster regional exchange cooperation among stakeholders in the Caribbean.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement workshops, training sessions, and delegation visits.
  • Contribute to knowledge management, project monitoring, and gender-sensitive project planning.

Required Profile:

  • A university degree in Environmental Studies, Energy, Natural Resource Management, Project Management, or a related field,
  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of professional experience in environmental management, with a strong focus on circular economy and/or sargassum-related work and/or energy sector,
  • In-depth knowledge of the Caribbean waste, sargassum, and energy sectors,
  • Proven work experience in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), particularly in the areas of environmental, waste, or energy management,
  • Experience working with or within CARICOM, OECS, the European Union, or other relevant regional/national institutions (public or private), as well as international development cooperation organizations,
  • Demonstrated ability to provide policy guidance and capacity development support, and to coordinate complex, multi-stakeholder processes.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills,
  • A collaborative team player with excellent communication, facilitation, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills,
  • Proficiency in common ICT tools and applications,
  • Willingness to engage in upskilling as required by project needs,
  • Availability for regular travel within and outside the region,
  • The candidate must be a citizen of Grenada or possess a valid work permit for employment in Grenada,
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills,
  • Working knowledge of German, Spanish, or French,
  • Demonstrated gender competence and understanding of gender-sensitive project planning,
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or willingness to obtain one.
