Field Officers for the Mediterranean Programme At Platform for Peace and Humanity

Position Overview

The Platform for Peace and Humanity is currently seeking volunteer Field Officers for the Mediterranean Programme in the following countries: Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, and Turkey.

Under the supervision of the Programme Director, the volunteer will support the development and achievement of the Programme’s objectives by engaging in in-country outreach and engagement efforts, identifying key relevant issues, and providing insight into potential topics for the Platform’s work in the relevant country. The role may also involve contributing to the Platform’s publications.

This is a voluntary, unpaid role and is ideal for early-career professionals or advanced students in international law, international relations, or development studies. Applicants should take a keen interest in the vision and objectives of the Platform.

Location: Home office (remote)

Time commitment: 5-10 h/week, flexible work hours

Duties and responsibilities

Outreach and Engagement:

  • Initiate contact with and develop work relations with relevant interlocutors in country, such as civil society organisations, universities, experts, media outlets, donors, etc. to broaden the Platform’s network; Identify and attend events, such as lectures, panel discussions, etc. relevant to the objectives of the Programme;
  • Contribute to the promotion and dissemination of the Platform’s Peace and Security Monitor in the relevant country.

Collaboration & Programme Development:

  • Identify and gather information and knowledge on current issues, policy developments, initiatives, key actors, donors and events that align with the Programme’s objectives;
  • Based on meetings,events,reading, research, etc.,identify on-going developments and issues for the Platform to pursue further in the form of research, intervention, projects, etc.;
  • Collaborate closely with the Programme Director and other Platform staff as needed towards the development of potential partnerships and initiatives, interventions, and projects relevant to the country;
  • Perform other tasks as requested.

Required qualification

  • Demonstrated passion and dedication to the mission and values of the Platform;
  • A solid understanding of the country, including the socio-political context, human rights and development issues;
  • Currently living in the relevant country, preferably the capital city or a major city;
  • Masters or PhD in international relations, law, human rights or development studies, or in a related field; suitably qualified Bachelors will be considered;
  • Ability and enthusiasm for making new professional connections;
  • Professional-level English;
  • Professional-level French, depending on the location;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, Teams) and Google Workspace.

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience in academic research and writing;
  • Experience with resource mobilisation and stakeholder identification, analysis and engagement activities;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and openness to proposing new programme, partnership, research or other intervention ideas.
