Overview of IHA

InterEuropean Human Aid Association (IHA) is a grassroots organisation providing humanitarian aid and assistance to refugees, asylum seekers and people whose needs are not met elsewhere. We support thousands of individuals in Northern Greece with essential relief supplies, as well as providing a space for learning, integration and building community. IHA has operated in Northern Greece since 2016 and is currently running a warehouse in Diavata and a community centre in Lagadikia. During this time we have built a strong network with humanitarian grassroots organisations, as well as with local actors and initiatives supporting people on the move in Europe. We work closely with local actors to assist people on the move to access services, develop networks, skills and tools, and move towards self-reliance and independence in their new place of residence. Today, IHA operates primarily in supply management, logistics, informal education, community building, and inclusion support. We strongly focus on providing support around the principle of dignity first whilst remaining flexible to needs and independent. We aim to work collaboratively as a team while making sure to maintain sustainable operations for the organisation and our target group.

Key Responsibilities:

● Coordination of on-site volunteers:

○ Working with the management team to establish volunteering needs of the organization.

○ Volunteer recruitment and administration: creating role descriptions based on needs, advertising and monitoring of volunteer vacancies, communicating with applicants, screening applications, conducting interviews, and related administrative tasks such as obtaining references.

○ Volunteer onboarding and training: updating and developing onboarding resources,

running inductions and presentations, organising trainings and facilitating necessary Greek bureaucratic and organisational specific documentation

○ Volunteer supervision and welfare: one-on-one check-ins with volunteers, focus groups

and care sessions, exit interviews, and feedback collection

○ Shift scheduling: creating daily and weekly schedules for both the warehouse and the

community centre project. Managing time off schedule

○ Logistic scheduling: responsible for creating vehicle schedules in line with shift schedules and transport needs

○ Arranging and hosting team meetings

○ Monitoring of volunteer expenses

● Communications and online volunteer community management:

○ Volunteer ambassador liaison: engaging and supporting volunteers to contribute to the

cause of the organisation beyond their stay in Greece

○ Act as liaison / support for the social media and Greek team with specific social media needs

○ Approving volunteer’s fundraiser text, assisting with emergency and seasonal fundraisers.

● Internships and traineeships supervision;

○ Liaising with institutions to develop partnerships for internships and traineeships

○ Supervising interns and trainees

○ Filling in internship/traineeships plans proposals, internship/traineeships contracts and internship/traineeships evaluations.

● General coordination tasks and responsibilities as needed including:

○ Co-coordination of IHA projects in collaboration with logistics, project and program manager and playing a proactive role to steer and enable IHA’s work and projects

○ Patricipation in coordination, project specific, board and other meetings as required

○External programmes/projects as required.

○Support in the Warehouse and the Community centre to cover tasks as needed

Applicant Profile:

Required:

  • Willing to relocate to Thessaloniki, Greece
  • Experience with in a grassroots/volunteer-run organisation in the context of migration and humanitarian support
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Clean Driving licence (class B) valid in Greece. Confident driving regularly a 7-seater or a van and willingness to drive daily
  • Conflict management skills; ability to act as a mediator in difficult situations
  • Broad intercultural competence and ability to connect with and motivate people
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the refugee/humanitarian context in Greece
  • Excellent command of English
  • Strong interpersonal work ethic and hands-on mentality
  • Highly-motivated and passionate about IHA’s work
  • Adept at working in a variable context, comfortable with unpredictability and change
  • Well-developed computer skills, digital problem solver
  • Must be eligible to legally reside and work in Greece (IHA is not able to sponsor visas)

Desired:

  • Experience with social media and online community management
  • Proficiency in Greek
