MAG supports the development of countries emerging from conflict by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war, so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. The main area of focus in MAG’s programmes across West Africa is Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM), working with national defence and security authorities towards the safe storage, management and destruction of weapons and munitions.
About the role:
This is an exciting time to join the MAG West Africa team. This post reports to the HMA Regional Manager West Africa & Sahel. You will contribute to the success of MAG project activities in the Sahel and West Africa related to information management, with the aim of developing capacity internally, to support our partners and to create sustainable national capacities. The RIMM will encourage the sharing of expertise, learning and development within MAG and the mine action sector as a whole.
The postholder will also provide regional assistance and leadership for the effective use of information management principles and practices in the service of humanitarian mine action and support the successful development and direct implementation of MAG’s Operations Management Information System (OMIS) in the Sahel and West Africa.
In addition, you will assess, design, deploy and support solutions using geographic information systems to advance MAG project objectives, manage existing data, in a relevant and transparent manner, and use it to inform programming and mine action operational management. You will advice various stakeholders on good practices in information management through training and guidance and contribute to other activities such as assessment of information management needs, proposing the best options in a given context, developing and conducting training, conducting research on topics relevant to information management, and contributing to the development and grant management.
About you:
You will have a solid track record of progressively responsible experience in the design, development, implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation of IM/GIS projects and field experience in all relevant IM/GIS operational approaches and methodologies. You will also have strong experience in GIS, quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation of IM/GIS projects and capacity building. Experience in spatial analysis applied to performance analysis mapping, explosive ordnance contamination mapping and others (eg floods, earthquakes, etc.) is essential. In addition, you will be familiar with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS online in mine action.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships and influence a variety of stakeholders are required. In-depth knowledge of spatial analysis, geostatistical techniques, ESRI ArcGis platforms and high level of proficiency in MS Office applications and databases are essential to succeed in this role. You will also possess strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to plan and coordinate multiple activities, think strategically, set priorities and make sound decisions. The RIMM will manage a heavy workload and should be able to successfully guide and coach staff members, encourage high performance and work under pressure. A proven ability to work as part of a remote team and foster constructive working relationships within the organization while proactively networking with industry partners is required. Lastly, you must be able to undertake frequent travel within the region.
MAG is looking for a candidate fluent in both French and English, but with fluency in French as a minimum.
