Overview of position:

  • Our client is an operational arm of the UN, supporting the successful implementation of its partners’ peacebuilding, humanitarian & development projects around the world. Their mission is to help people build better lives & countries achieve peace & sustainable development. Their areas of expertise cover infrastructure, procurement, project management, financial management & human resources.
  • Our client is seeking to recruit through 3rd party a highly qualified local engineer with good experience in the field of solar pumping projects over all governorates of Yemen who will work together with the Renewable Energy Specialist to achieve the objective of the assignment achieves the tasks stated below.

Role objectives:

  • Working under our clients projects related to solar pumping, water wells, pumping station, water network & electro mechanical projects.
  • Coordinates with local, govt. authorities & social associations related to our clients projects & mandates.
  • Carry out field visits to water wells & electro mechanical projects for assessment purposes & verify the actual needs, collect data, take measurements, etc.
  • Lead design team to prepare detailed engineering studies on a variety of subjects including, but not limited to electrical studies, plans, specifications, BoQs & tender documentations for construction projects varying in complexity, for a portion or the entire project.
  • Services may include preliminary plans & cost estimates, necessary fieldwork, drafting, design, surveying, bid assistance, construction inspection & project management to facilitate review & approval processes, in addition to providing a detailed estimate of cost for the work.
  • Provide technical & administrative support throughout all stages of projects including designing processes by executing / administering a variety of technical design transactions, preparing materials / documentations, complying with our clients processes & procedures.
  • Lead & supervise the implementation of the HSSE systems & requirements, GRM, PSEA / SH in the field and any other client related regulations related to the infrastructure work.
  • Working in coordination with our clients Engineers, City Engineers, Social Safeguard Officer, M&E & Communication, logistic & other parties.
  • Liaises with local authorities & social representatives for nomination of targeted facilities.
  • Supervise / lead construction, pre / commissioning & handover of solar pumping & mechanical projects.
  • Supervise maintenance of solar projects conducted by the contractors.
  • Carry out all required QA / QC inspection & test for construction & material.
  • Ensure enforcement of safeguard requirements in all our clients projects stages.
  • Follow up & report on progress of our clients projects on a weekly & / or monthly basis.
  • Conduct studies, tendering & contracting for 30 water wells within 5 months.
  • Efficiently use of field site application for reports & other client related applicable tools in all stages of projects.
  • Ensure effective and efficient social engagement in line with our clients mandate.
  • Supervise & lead implementation of the HSSE in all YEEAP activities & communicate, report to HSSE management.

Monitoring & progress controls:

  • Availability in the field, progress reports, HSSE monitoring & reporting, assessment reports QA / QC reports, commissioning & handover reports, reporting via the monitoring tools & applications.

Project reporting:

  • This role reports to the line manager.

Key competencies:

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 4 years working experience in electromechanical projects.
  • Very good oral & written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills & ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience in the usage of computers & software packages (Autodesk, MS Office, etc.).
  • Very good knowledge in written & oral of English & Arabic languages is required.

Team management:

  • This role has no team management responsibility.
