SolidarMed Zimbabwe is a local Private Voluntary organisation registered with the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe. SolidarMed’s programmatic focus is on implementation, gaining strong technical expertise in HIV, infectious diseases, mother-child health, non-communicable diseases, and capacity strengthening of partner organisations including through digital health. Key partners are the main health care providers in the programme areas, which are the national, provincial and district representatives of the Ministry of Health and Child Care, local leaders, and the executive boards of the health institutions.
SolidarMed seeks to recruit a Technical Director (TD) for an anticipated USAID-funded five-year maternal, new-born, child health (MNCH) programme in selected provinces and districts of Zimbabwe. The project is anticipated to focus on strengthening the systems and capacities of the government of Zimbabwe and its partners to accelerate the reduction of maternal and new-born mortality in the country. Final confirmation of the position is contingent upon a successful funding award approval by USAID
Job description
The Technical Director’s will work closely with the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party to:
- provide overarching technical leadership and direction on the design and implementation of the anticipated USAID MNCH programme in alignment with technical guidelines, project objectives, technical standards, best practices, and global evidence.
- Provide MNH technical leadership to overall project management, including the development of work plans and budgets, implementation, reporting and M&E, and compliance with the requirements and regulations of the award.
- Strategise and lead MNH programming efforts to reduce maternal and new-born mortality in the country, ensuring program quality and responsiveness to emerging needs.
- Provide technical supervision and oversight of programme implementation in target districts in coordination with key stakeholders and other partners.
- ensure the technical direction of the project is strategic, coherent, and supports the achievement of project objectives.
- ensure close coordination and technical alignment between and among the project’s partners, as well as monitoring, evaluation, reporting and learning (MERL), finance and operations activities and ensure that technical implementation is data-driven, agile, impactful, and sustainable.
- Work closely and collaboratively with the team to document successes and lessons learned and use evidence-based learning guides and improve implementation of MNH project interventions.
- Develop and maintain relationships with USAID, MoHCC, and partners and stakeholders at national and sub-national levels.
Required qualifications and person specifications.
The Technical Director must have:
- A Master’s degree in Public Health or related field (Social sciences) or medical degree with additional post-grad qualifications (e.g., post graduate degree in public health or gender studies).
- A minimum of 10 years progressively responsible, professional-level experience managing public health programs with emphasis on MNH.
- Proven working experience collaborating with government institutions, especially the MoHCC structures from National to District level as well as with other community and NGO stakeholders.
- Proven experience in the development of MNCH service delivery guidelines; implementation tools and job aides.
- Demonstrated skills in planning, programme management, implementation, and monitoring for impact.
- Previous experience in implementing a USG programme an added advantage.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills in English.
- A team player, good at multi-tasking with excellent strategy formulation skills.
