SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid organization that, for over 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflict and natural disasters by addressing their vital needs: water, food, and shelter. Particularly committed to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death worldwide, SI implements its interventions with expertise in the areas of access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion, as well as in the essential areas of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, SI’s teams—a total of 3,200 people including expatriates, national staff, headquarters staff, and a few volunteers—operate with professionalism and dedication, respecting local cultures.

Context

The logistics and finance assistant for the Atlantic base reports to the Logistics and Finance Manager for the Atlantic region (Nantes and Angers). They work in collaboration with the program teams: WASH (Water, Hygiene and Sanitation) technical teams and community mobilization teams.

Job description

Internship Objectives

  • Discover how a humanitarian NGO operates and the links between headquarters, coordination, and field operations.
  • Understanding the organization of a mission and its operational constraints
  • Discover the jobs in the field and the humanitarian actors
  • Become familiar with purchasing procedures and financial tracking tools
  • Participate in field activities through travel to intervention sites

Main missions

Logistics & Purchasing

  • Support for market research, supplier searches, and donations
  • Participation in purchasing procedures (LINK platform) and order tracking
  • Organization of the transport, delivery and storage of goods
  • Management and archiving of logistics documents
  • Participation in the preparation of monthly logistics packages

Transport & Stock

  • Organizing travel arrangements (train, hotel) for the teams
  • Support for inter-base freight management and vehicle tracking
  • Conducting inventories and informing program teams

Distributions

  • Seeking donations and assembling kits
  • Packaging, storage and transport of kits
  • Participation in field distributions

Accounting & Financial Management

  • Support for accounting tasks: collection, verification and archiving of documents
  • Updating accounting journals and monitoring invoicing
  • Participation in the monthly accounting closing
  • Contribution to budget monitoring and financial monitoring tools

General

  • Participation in team meetings
  • Cross-cutting support to different areas according to needs

Your profile

  • With a background in humanitarian logistics, accounting and/or financial management, project management, development, international relations, or political science
  • Good command of Microsoft Office suite (primarily Word and Excel)
  • Good analytical and writing skills
  • Good prioritization skills
  • Curiosity and critical thinking
  • Organisation et anticipation
  • Interpersonal skills and teamwork
  • Relevance to the context: access to water in France
  • Commitment to the principles and work of Solidarités International
  • Category B driving licence required

If you offer the following conditions

  • Internship with mandatory internship agreement.
  • Compensation: 5.60 euros/hour
  • The bonus is calculated pro rata based on the actual hours worked during the month. (On average, 1 month = 154 hours, or 22 days of 7 hours/day)
  • Public transport costs are 50% covered by SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL
  • Meal vouchers at €8.90 per day of internship, with 60% contribution from SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL
