Designer / Communications & Visibility Specialist At Ektimisi

Ektimisi is seeking a Designer / Communications & Visibility Specialist (Consultancy) to strengthen the organisation’s external presence through high-quality design and strategic communications support. This is a remote, deliverable-based consultancy (not a full-time role). We are looking for a consultant who can ideally combine strong design and communications skills; however, applicants with a stronger profile in one area are also encouraged to apply, as Ektimisi may engage more than one consultant to meet its 2026 communications needs.

Scope of Work

The consultant will support Ektimisi’s visibility with donors, partners, and stakeholders by delivering professional, brand-consistent communication products and helping shape the organisation’s communications approach for the year. Responsibilities may include:

Design & Document Production

  • Design and format professional materials including reports, briefs, proposals, and presentations, primarily in MS Word and PDF.
  • Develop and maintain a set of brand-aligned templates for external communications (e.g., reports, briefs, presentations, letterheads, factsheets).
  • Create visual assets such as covers, infographics, charts, icons, and layouts to enhance clarity and readability.
  • Convert technical or text-heavy content into well-structured, visually engaging documents with strong visual hierarchy.
  • Ensure consistency across outputs in typography, structure, layout, and overall visual identity.
  • Deliver final outputs in both editable formats and finalised PDFs.

Communications & Visibility

  • Develop a 2026 Communications & Visibility Plan in collaboration with Ektimisi, including priority audiences, key messages, channels, communication products, and a practical timeline.
  • Support refinement of Ektimisi’s brand and external positioning, including consolidation of visual identity elements and basic brand guidance for consistent use.
  • Work closely with project and research teams to translate programme outputs into clear, donor- and stakeholder-facing communications products.
  • Ensure communication materials reflect the expectations and standards common in the NGO/humanitarian/development sector.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience producing high-quality design and formatted documents for external audiences (reports, proposals, presentations, briefs).
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word (including styles, formatting, and template development) and PDF production (Adobe Acrobat or equivalent).
  • Practical experience with Adobe InDesign and/or Illustrator (or equivalent professional design tools).
  • Strong ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible, and visually strong communication materials.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and capacity to meet tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with communications in the NGO, humanitarian, or development context, including donor-facing materials, is strongly preferred.

Additional Assets (Preferred)

  • Experience working with WordPress (basic updates and content formatting).
  • Basic video editing skills for short visibility content.
