General Description of SDI

SDI is a non‑profit, humanitarian organization established in 2015 and officially registered in Syria. SDI provides life‑saving and life‑sustaining assistance to crisis‑affected communities across Syria.
SDI delivers its support through a range of multisectoral programs, including Shelter and Non‑Food Items (SNFIs), Health, Nutrition, Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Protection, and Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL).

General Description

Position Purpose:

The Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on FSL interventions in accordance with organizational strategies, donor requirements, and international standards. The role ensures high-quality program delivery, community engagement, accountability, and effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders. The FSL Coordinator serves as the focal point for clusters and technical working groups and is responsible for expanding the FSL funding portfolio. The position also leads product design, provides FSL inputs for organizational activities such as reporting, campaigns, and responses to FSL opportunities, and oversees the implementation of seasonal projects during Ramadan and Eid Al-Adha. Additionally, the Coordinator contributes to organizational activities including needs assessments, surveys, and cross-cutting themes.

Reporting & Coordination:

He/She reports directly to the Programs Director and works closely with all organizational departments.
The FSL coordinator coordinates with local authorities, community leaders, partner organizations, and clusters/working groups. In addition to contributing to internal coordination meetings and external coordination forums as required.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

SDI reserves the right to modify, update, or assign additional responsibilities and duties to this position at any time, as required to meet organizational needs.

1- Development 10%

* Contribute to the design and development of FSL SOPs.
Attend and contribute to strategic activities.

2- Supervision 20%

* Supervises FSL projects teams.
Supervise technical indicators and ensure proper implementation.

3- Implementation 70%

Program Design & Strategy
Contribute to needs assessments, market assessments, and feasibility studies.
Design FSL interventions (cash/voucher assistance, agriculture, livestock, skills training, small business support, resilience programming).
Contribute to proposal development, budgets, and logframes.
Ensure programs are gender-sensitive, disability-inclusive, and conflict-sensitive.
Lead FSL integration within other programs and related organizaitonal SOPs.

Program Implementation & Coordination
Oversee implementation of FSL activities according to work plans and targets.
Coordinate with field teams, partners, and local authorities.
Implement Ramadan and Sacrifice SDI seasonal projects and increase annual deliverables.
Lead FSL working meetings (internal and external, as required)

Technical Leadership & Quality Assurance
conduct technical guidance and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor guidelines
Apply international standards (e.g., Sphere, CaLP, FAO guidance)
Monitor market trends and adapt programming accordingly

Monitoring
Work closely with MEAL teams to design indicators and monitoring tools.
Review and analyze program data for quality and impact.
Ensure beneficiary feedback and accountability mechanisms are functional.
Support learning, documentation of best practices, and lessons learned.

Reporting & Donor Compliance
Ensure timely and high-quality narrative and quantitative reports.
Contribute to donor reports, sitreps, and internal updates.
Track indicators, outputs, outcomes, and budget utilization.
Support donor visits, audits, and evaluations.

Team Management & Capacity Building
Supervise FSL officers, assistants, and technical staff.
Build staff capacity through coaching, mentoring, and trainings.
Support performance management and team development.

Coordination & Representation
Represent the organization in FSL coordination forums and clusters
Coordinate with government counterparts, UN agencies, and NGOs
Strengthen partnerships with implementing partners and stakeholders.
Include unitiative and grass roots in projects to sustain communities.

Qualifications

Education

* Bachelor’s degree. Required

* Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Economics, Development Studies, Livelihoods, Social Sciences, or a related field, ‘A master degree in related fields is an asset. Preferred

Experience

* Demonstrated experience in managing any of: Food Security, Cash-based programming, Rural Livelihoods and Economic Development, Market Linkages or related programming. Required

* At least three years of proven experience managing one or more above mentioned modalities.
At least five years’ managerial experiences working with INGOs, including experience in emergency or development contexts.
Miscellaneous experience in grants and projects delivery, budget preparation, expenditure tracking, monitoring, and reporting. Preferred

Knowlegde & Skills

* Strong understanding of food security and livelihoods programming. Required

* Knowledge of humanitarian and/or development principles and standards
Strong planning, organizational, and analytical skills
Excellent communication and report-writing skills
Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
Strong interpersonal and community engagement skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Preferred

Languages

* Arabic: Native

* English: Very Good and above

Other Requirements

* Computer Skills: Word – Excel- Powerpoint good level

* Permits: Ability to travel

SDI may consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Travel and Field Work Requirements

Inside Syria: Frequent (over 60%)

Outside Syria : None

Travel percentages are approximate and may vary based on operational needs.
