About Mari Research and Development

Mari Research and Development is a non-for-profit civil society organization operating in northeast Syria. It was established in 2018 and registered in Canada, France and Erbil.

In 2018, a group of educated, dynamic and like-minded youth working in the development sector got together to establish an organization for addressing the most urgent and pressing needs of people in Syria. MRD seeks to build a stable and just society where peace and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms prevail.

In order to promote cohesive and tolerant societies where justice and equality prevail, we seek to promote human rights, and to make them the primary and main drivers of the diverse societies which we target through our work.

The purpose of the Position

Under direct supervision of Program Manager, the project coordinator is based in Erbil. S/he will oversee project/s implementation, ensuring that all projects activities will be implemented in line with the project work plan and in accordance with MRD and the donor’s standards and requirements. The project coordinator will provide support for technical oversight of all components of the project, including working closely with MRDs M&E, technical, finance and HR/administrative teams to ensure successful project implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Planning, implementing, and monitoring project activities ensuring timely and quality delivery of deliverables per the targets set in the approved project proposal/s.
  2. Contribute to financial planning, budget modification, procurement, reporting, and monitoring of project activities under the supervision of the Programs Manager.
  3. Prepare, manage, and regularly update the project activities work plan and related financial plan, ensuring timely and quality implementation in compliance with the defined project strategy
  4. Oversee staff management including the logistic, administration, and finance staff to procure all equipment, supplies, and materials required to implement the project activities and office operations such as utility payments
  5. Ensure adherence to MRD rules and regulations applicable to the project with regards to program, logistics, security, human resources, and administration are fulfilled
  6. Collaborates closely with project officer to continuously assess status of implementation against project work plan and makes recommendations for appropriate steps to ensure project is on track in meeting deliverables
  7. Ensure accurate data collection from project team members in MRD M&E tools.
  8. Take the lead in gathering and writing of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual project reports, ensuring timely and high-quality reporting with the project team.
  9. Perform any other assigned tasks by the line manager

Education

A BA or Master’s degree in the social sciences with significant experience in either humanitarian relief, public health or development projects management.

Experiences

  1. Experience in handling complex programs funded by major multilateral or bilateral donor agencies.
  2. Demonstrated field leadership in strategic program and project development, implementation, and evaluation.
  3. Commitment to promote Mari’s Vision, Mission, and its strategic goals.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Excellent diplomatic skills and ability to create positive relations with senior government officials, heads of diplomatic missions, international organizations, NGOs and CBOs to enhance Mari Development’s programs.
  6. Experience with financial management and compliance with donor requirements.
  7. Entrepreneurial orientation, self-starter able to work independently and cope with demanding work situations in complex setting.
  8. Excellent English and Arabic communication skills (written and oral).
