Intern at the International Emergency Unit – Assistant to the International Emergency Unit (M/F) At French Red Cross

The French Red Cross (CRF) intervenes each year in numerous international humanitarian crises, mobilizing specialized teams to meet the needs of affected populations. The International Emergency Unit (PUI) leads and coordinates the CRF’s emergency responses, working closely with field teams, support services, and partners of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

In a context marked by the increasing number of crises and the need for greater responsiveness, the PUI (Public Emergency Response Unit) wishes to strengthen its operational support and coordination capacity. The proposed internship is part of this initiative and aims to support the Head of the Unit and the Operations Coordinator in their daily tasks.

Purpose of the position: To provide operational, organizational and analytical support to the Head of the International Emergency Unit and the Operations Coordinator, in order to contribute to the preparation, monitoring and coordination of the French Red Cross’s international emergency responses.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

A. Support for the coordination of emergency operations

  • Contribute to crisis monitoring and the collection of contextual information (humanitarian monitoring, situation analysis).
  • Contribute to the preparation of situation reports, meeting minutes and follow-up documents (daily log)
  • Contribute to the coordination between the PUI, field teams, support services and external partners.

B. Support for operational monitoring and reporting

  • Contribute to monitoring operational reporting of emergency responses (internal reports, donor reports, situation notes).
  • Perform an initial review of reporting documents submitted by field teams, ensuring consistency, clarity, adherence to expected formats and deadlines.
  • Support the consolidation of operational information in conjunction with the Head of Department and the Operations Coordinator.
  • Participate in the improvement and standardization of the department’s reporting tools and formats.

C. Cross-cutting support and specific projects

  • Contribute to cross-functional work within the department (preparing presentations, mapping stakeholders).
  • Provide occasional support for the preparation of simulation exercises, training sessions or internal workshops.
  • Depending on current operational needs, participate in specific projects related to strengthening emergency response capacities.

WORK RELATIONSHIPS

  • Under the direct supervision of the Head of the International Emergency Unit , in close collaboration with the Operations Coordinator .
  • Regular collaboration with operational and support teams at headquarters

The successful candidate may be required, depending on operational needs and the priorities of the International Emergency Unit, to contribute to any other cross-functional activity or task that helps achieve the unit’s objectives. This flexibility reflects a collaborative work approach and adaptability to intervention contexts, particularly in emergency situations.

Experience

Master’s student in international relations, humanitarian action, political science, project management, or equivalent field.

Languages ​​spoken

Fluent French

Fluency in spoken and written English

Candidate qualities

  • Strong interest in humanitarian action and international emergency responses.
  • Analytical, synthesis and writing skills.
  • Good command of office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Rigour, organizational skills and autonomy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment
